Mary L. Peace, 78, of Punxsutawney, formerly of Tionesta, Pa., and Conneaut Lake, Pa., died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, surrounded by family at her home in Punxsutawney.
She was born on July 6, 1935, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late Clark and Iola (Hayes) Gould.
On Jan. 1, 1955, in Rossiter, she married John âJayâ Peace, who died on June 27, 1998.
She was employed by Alltel Corp in the Customer Service Dept. until retiring in 1996.
Sharon E. Jewell, 56, of Dayton, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, following a nearly three-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born on July 27, 1957, in Punxsutawney, and was the daughter of Melvin and Shelvia (Good) Troup.
She was married on Aug. 2, 1980, to Richard E. Jewell, and he survives.
Sharon was a homemaker in the true sense of the word.
She was selfless and kind, always taking care of her family and giving and doing for others.
She was a member of the Oakland Church of God in Distant.
Janet M. Dinger of Northview Drive, Brookville, beloved wife of Harold F. (Pete) Dinger, and daughter of Cloyd (Link) Lingenfelter and Ruby Diener Lingenfelter, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013.
She was 78 years old and had been a resident of the Jefferson Manor for the past four years.
Janet was born in Brookville on April 3, 1935, and graduated as salutatorian from Brookville Area High School in 1953.
She was married to Pete Dinger in 1954 and lived in Brookville, where they raised their family.
Cecil James Payne, 89, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
He was born March 7, 1924, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Henry James and Ivy Theola (Bowen) Payne.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann (Jordan) Payne, who preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2003.
For many years, he owned and operated the Payne and Pennington Television Sales and Service Center in Punxsutawney.
Cecil played the clarinet in the Punxsutawney High School Band, as well as playing in many local bands.
Dorothy Irene Anderson, 88, of West Springfield, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on Jan, 5, 1925, in Punxsutawney, she was the daughter of the late Jennings Clay and Margaret Berkey Barnett.
Dorothy graduated from Punxsutawney High School.
She was a homemaker and was devoted to her family.
She loved her home and her animals. Dorothy was an avid family historian and devoted countless hours to compiling her familyâs genealogy.
She greatly enjoyed gardening, cooking and birdwatching.
She was a Daughter of the American Revolution.
Marie E. Pifer Postlewaite, 80, of Erie, died Wednesday morning, Nov, 20, 2013, at St. Mary's Home East following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Reynoldsville on Nov. 22, 1932, a daughter of the late Irving G. and Euzela Rhodes Pifer.
Marie originally worked as an assembler at Marx Toys and went on to work with Smith Meter.
She enjoyed stamping, gardening, sewing, crocheting and knitting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Pritchard; one great-grandson, Adam Parris; and three brothers, Kenneth, Earl and Ray Pifer.
Helen Louise Means, 97, a long-term resident of Valier, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Broomall, Pa.
Helen was born April 8, 1916, a daughter of Lester N. Good and Ethel Good Bennett.
She is survived by her children, William âEdâ Means (Candace), Muriel Ricker, Sylvia Ramsey and Penny Warren; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William âBillâ Means.
Over her lifetime, Helen impacted many people through her kindness and compassion.
Josephine Dale Perry, 84, of Laurel Brook Drive, Brookville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013. Waiting at the gates of Heaven was her loving husband, Edward Lee Perry, whom she married on Dec. 15, 1946. He died on March 12, 1999.
She was born May 24, 1929, in Luling, Texas, the daughter of Howard Dale
and Ida Josephine Davis Williams. She and her husband, Edward, lived in Punxsutawney for 30-plus years.
Baby Greyson Michael Adams passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at DRMC.
He is the son of Heather Rena Burkett and Michael Lee Adams, of Nu Mine, Pa., both of whom survive.
Greyson is also survived by his sister, Aubrey R. Meholick, maternal grandparents Robert and Vicki Burkett of Punxsutawney and Michelle Baker of Warren, Pa.; great-grandparents Pat and Nancy Duke of Florida; paternal grandparents Russell, Jr., and Lois E. Adams, and great-grandpa Russell Adams, Sr., all of Punxsy.
Friends will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Cloe United Methodist Church.
Robert V. Stiteler, 86, of Smicksburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mr. Stiteler was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Smicksburg, a son of the late Virgil Stiteler and Ruth Ann (McClelland) Stiteler.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Stiteler was a brakeman for the B&O Railroad before retirement.
He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Smicksburg and a member of the Dayton American Legion. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, gardening, hunting and fishing.
