Leah Grace Droske, 19

Leah Grace Droske, 19, of Dayton, Pa., passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013, at her mother’s home in North Carolina.

She was born March 22, 1994, in Rochester, N.Y., to Ron Droske, Jr. and Suzanne (Gattone) Powell.

Leah lived in the Dayton area most of her life and graduated from West Shamokin High School in 2012.

She recently worked at Dimaio’s Market as a cashier.

Leah loved horses and in her younger years enjoyed working with her dad at the Dayton Feed Mill.

Singing was her passion in life, and she was known for her amazing voice.

Joseph Anthony Palmer, Jr., 83

Joseph Anthony Palmer, Jr, 83, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Mulberry Square.

He was born August 18, 1929, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Joseph A. and Christine Violet (Pape) Palmer, Sr.

On Aug. 9, 1983, he married Rosemarie (Gallo) Perry. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2013.

Mr. Palmer was an Army Veteran, having served during World War II.

Joe worked as an engineer for PennDOT for many years.

He was a member of the John Jacob Fisher Post No. 62 for more than 30 years.

Joe was a resident of Mulberry Square for the past few years.

Sydney Sue Steele, 90

Sydney Sue Steele, 90, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Butler, Pa., on Nov. 24, 1922, a daughter of Florella Ruth Oesterling and John Lee Shields.

Sydney graduated from Brookville High School in 1940 and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in reading education at Pennsylvania State University and Clarion State College.

During World War II, she served in the U.S. Navy in Philadelphia as a radio operator, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
