Mazy W. Shaffer, 92

Mazy W. Shaffer, 92, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Mazy was born June 24, 1920, in Shelocta, a daughter of the late Orie Kerner and Wilimina (Reitz) Kerner.

Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Shaffer.

Surviving relatives include two sisters, Maxine Seger of New Kensington and Marie Smith of Brookville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Andrew Joseph Verostic, 65

Andrew Joseph Verostic, 65, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013. at UPMC Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born April 8, 1947, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Andrew James and Helene (Hagney) Verostic.

On April 1, 1967, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church, he married the former Patricia Mae Sikora.

She survives and resides in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Verostic worked as an engineer for Union Switch and Signal in Pittsburgh.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, woodcrafting, hunting and fishing.
