Boyd A. Ferringer, Jr., 83, of Fairmount City, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Golden Living in Clarion.
He was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Fairmount City, a son of the late Boyd A. and Naomi Ruth (Smith) Ferringer, Sr.
Mr. Ferringer served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud to have served his country.
On April 29, 1960, he married the former, Martha Jean Bracken. She survives.
He was a member of the Oakland Church of God.
Boyd previously worked for Crawford Furniture, Bracken's Construction and Clarion Homes.
William J. â€śJiggsâ€ť Covatch, Sr., 86 of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Oct.r 7, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mr. Covatch was born on Nov. 24, 1926, in Rossiter, a son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Barnett) Covatch.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nancy L. (Restifo) Covatch on April 23, 2002 â€” they were married March 24, 1951 â€” and by his son, William Jerry Covatch, Jr., on Oct. 12, 1985.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War.
Helen F. Huss, 104, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Stoneridge Towne Center in Myerstown, Pa.
She was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Walston, the daughter of the late Stephen and Suzan Golias.
She was married to Paul A. Huss, who preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1998.
She is survived by one grandson, Daniel Ranshaw of Myerstown, Pa.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ranshaw; two brothers, George and Stephen Golias; and by four sisters, Martha, Anna, Mary and Helen.
Frank C. Cackowski, 74, of Rochester Mills, formerly of Latrobe, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cackowski was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Loylahanna, Pa., a son of the late Marcus and Mary (Kubistek) Cackowski.
He was married to Barbara E. (Pluchinsky) Cackowski, who survives, of Rochester Mills. They were married Dec. 22, 1978.
He was a member of SS. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church.
Frank was retired after 42 years at Latrobe Steel, and after retirement, he became interested in beef farming.
Herbert R. McIntire, 84, of Kittanning (Wayne Twp.), passed away on Oct. 4, 2013, at the ACMH Hospital.
He was born on June 23, 1929, in Echo, Pa., to Clyde and Gladys (Farester) McIntire.
Herbert worked as a track foreman for the railroad.
He was a life member of the Woodmen of the World and enjoyed farming.
Herbert is survived by a son, Jerry McIntire of Kittanning; a daughter, Karen (James) Titus of Kittanning; a brother, Robert McIntire of Kittanning; a sister, Donna Kline of Dayton, Pa.; and granddaughters Katie Titus and Laura McIntire.
The Rev. Msgr. George J. Adams, 88, of Broad Street Brockway, died Oct. 2, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born on Aug. 13, 1925, in Toronto, Ohio, he was the son of the late George J. and Anna Karaffa Adams.
Ryan Joseph Stankewich, 26, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013.
He was born Dec. 22, 1986, a son of Stacey Marie Schepis and Daryl Joseph Stankewich.
He was a 2005 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.
He graduated from Triangle Tech in 2008.
He was employed as a Union Carpenter with Local No. 947 of Ridgway.
Ryan enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, animals, cleaning cars and playing a good game of bingo.
He was a compassionate, loving, caring soul, and he loved his family and friends deeply.
William G. â€śBillâ€ť Fusco, 88, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at UPMC Altoona.
He was born May 13, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Joe and Edith (Paladino) Fusco.
On April 17, 1947, he married Phyllis J. (Hewitt) Fusco, who survives.
He was a member of the Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.
He was employed as a salesman for the Phillip Morris Company for more than 30 years.
After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Pacific during World War II, serving with the 1st Division.
Sonja H. Berryhill, 76, Big Run, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.
She was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Henry
and Violet P. (Hoel) Horrell.
On Feb. 1, 1964, she married Thomas R. Berryhill, who survives.
She was Protestant by faith.
She was a teller and an assistant manager at the National City Bank in Big Run for 23 years and retired on June 15, 1994.
She was a member of the Big Run Betas, Eastern Star of Somerset for 55 years and a lifetime member of the PSU Alumni Association.
