Donna Mae Depp, 78

Donna Mae Depp, 78, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at home.

She was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late William Henry Rugh, Sr., and Clara Elaine (Barnett) Rugh.

On May 17, 1952, she married the love of her life, Robert Dean Depp.

Together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

Donna worked as a school bus driver in the Mapleview area.

She was a kind and easygoing bus driver who had surprise gifts for the little ones who were reluctant to get on the bus for the first time.

Richard C. Read, 93

Richard C. Read, 93, of Mahaffey, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

Mr. Read was born March 8, 1919, in Kermoore, a son of the late George Read and Julia (McCracken) Read.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

Nov. 11, 1983, he married Donna R. (Kuntz) Read, who survives, of Mahaffey.

He was a credit manager and salesman for B F Goodrich Tires (L F & J B Beard and Cook Inc.) for many years before retiring.

He was a member of the Mahaffey Alliance Church.

George Steven Barenick, 90

George Steven Barenick, 90, Indiana, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at his residence.

He was born April 27, 1922, in Rossiter, Pa., a son of Parencik and Anna (Veselenak) Barenick.

George was employed for several years at U.S. Steel as a crane operator.

After his retirement from U.S. Steel, he continued to work as a carpenter and also provided maintenance for the railroad.

He served during World War II in the Army as a chauffeur for an Army major and general.

At one time, George was on the same ship as Winston Churchill.

Marcia L. (Reid) Etherson, 79

Marcia L. (Reid) Etherson, 79, Cranberry Township, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

She was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Alexander P. and Virginia (Kellert) Reid.

On May 8, 1953, in DuBois, she married Francis T. Etherson.

She lived in St. Marys for more than 30 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church of St. Marys; a member of several bridge clubs and a local Quilt Guild; a volunteer knitter for the Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lenard L. McMillen, 70

Lenard L. McMillen, 70, of Mahaffey, passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Norman McMillen and Ruth (Burkett) McMillen.

He married the love of his life, Diane "Kitten" (Painter) McMillen, of Mahaffey, on Aug. 13, 1966.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam.

Mr. McMillen worked for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center before retiring.

He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Punxsutawney.

Matthew Edward Brestovich, 34

October 15, 2012

Matthew Edward Brestovich, 34, of Knightstown, Ind., formerly of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012.

He was born Feb. 6, 1978, in Indiana, Pa., a son of Larry Edward Brestovich of Rossiter and Cheryl M. (Huey) Brestovich of Ringgold.

Oct. 16, 2004, he married Brittani Danielle Shock.

She survives and resides in Knightstown, Ind.

Matt enjoyed spending time with his children.

His hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Betty Mumau, 95

Beatrice "Betty" Evelyn (Blose) Mumau was born in Blose Hollow (near Wilgus, Pa.) on July 13, 1917.

She grew up with 11 siblings and regaled friends and family her whole life with magical tales of goings-on and family reunions — especially the famous Blose Reunion — in the Hollow.

Living to the ripe age of 95, Betty would often wistfully remark, "I am the last leaf on the tree.”

She was married in 1936 to Robert J. Mumau, who preceded her in death in 1984.

John Lee Heckman, 59

John Lee Heckman, 59, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Albert Charles and Constance Hope (Teats) Heckman.

He had previously worked at Matson Lumber and Elbel’s Produce Farm.

His enjoyment in life was spending time with his daughter Hope, making homemade soup called “Dough,” having Sunday dinners and visiting his family and friends.

He loved his dog Lizzy.

He was a content man who enjoyed what he had, and he also liked woodworking and gardening.

Mary M. Shields, 92

October 12, 2012

Mary M. Shields, 92, of Brookville, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

She was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Rosehill, Scotland, a daughter of the late Thomas Frew and Elizabeth Reid.

Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Buffalo, N.Y.

She was married on Dec. 12, 1942, to H. Glenn Shields, who preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2001.

Mrs. Shields was a member of the Brookville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was active in ministry all her life, leading women’s groups and mentoring young women.

Donald James Smith, 88

Donald James Smith, 88, known to his family and friends as Jim Smith, passed away on Oct. 2, 2012, in Carson City, Nev.

He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Juneau, Pa.

He graduated from Rossiter High School, Class of 1942.

Jim was married to Vivian Dunlop Smith, of Rossiter, for 50 years. She preceded him in death.

Jim served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was retired from Minneapolis Honeywell, Inc. after 35 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Masons.
