David N. Griffin, 50

David N. Griffin, 50, Valier, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born Oct. 27, 1961 in Salisbury, Md., a twin son of Shirley Ann (Autten) Griffin Bennett, who survives, of Delmar, Md., and the late Norman Elliott Griffin.

Mr. Griffin worked as a painter and performed odd jobs, most recently selling items on eBay.

He enjoyed working with his hands and doing mechanical jobs such as tearing down, fixing and reselling motorcycles and parts.

Mr. Griffin really liked to spend time with his little daughter, Audrey.

Paul R. Pounds Sr., 88

Paul R. Pounds Sr., 88, of Marion Center, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana.

He was born March 18, 1923, in Marion Center, a son of the late William and Alice (Feight) Pounds.

He married his wife, the former Betty J. Mock, Jan. 23, 1943, and their 69th wedding anniversary occurred the day of Betty’s death just a few weeks ago Jan 23, 2012.

Mr. Pounds was a graduate of Marion Center High School, then attended Vale Tech for two years.

He served as a medical tech in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Stanley “Stush” P. Dudek

Stanley “Stush” P. Dudek, 78, Arcadia, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Arcadia, a son of Michael P. and Julia (Stoyak) Dudek.

April 29, 1994, he married Elizabeth “Ann” (Patchin) Wetzel, who survives.

Mr. Dudek was a member of the Burnside United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a major. His service spanned tour of duties during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Following his retirement from the military, he was employed as a bus driver for the Purchase Line School District.

Karen E. Ishman, 61

Karen E. Ishman, 61, Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1950, a daughter of the late Harold Stuck and Hilda (Shields) Stuck-Lunger.

She was married to Jacob Ishman, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mrs. Ishman fought a lengthy battle with breast cancer but found solace in the love and strength of the Lord Jesus Christ.

She was a member of the Salvation Army and leader of the S.A. Women’s Group. She was also an avid plastic canvas and cross stitcher.

John Robert Bazella Sr., 66

February 12, 2012

John Robert Bazella Sr., 66, Rossiter, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1945, in New Kensington, a son of the late John Casmier and Olive Bertha (Daugherty) Bazella.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having faithfully served his country in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, where he was also exposed to Agent Orange that caused years of health issues that he refused to let keep him down.

Oct. 18, 1968, he married Judith Anne Heinsen, who survives.

In 1997, he and his wife moved to the 250-acre family farm in Rossiter.

Jeanette W. Craft, 93

Jeanette W. Craft, 93, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born June 30, 1918, in Mahaffey, a daughter of the late Stanley and Antonia (Sokolowski) Visnesky.

June 19, 1955, she married Paul W. Craft, who preceded her in death April 26, 1981.

She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sykesville.

She was a private practice nurse, a farm wife and a personal investor.

Martha Lillian Costanzo, 98

February 10, 2012

Martha Lillian Costanzo, 98, of Derry, and formerly of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, in the Bethlen Home, Ligonier.

She was born June 26, 1913, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Evritt and Lillie Bell Weiss Dunn.

She was married to Frank A. Costanzo, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Costanzo was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Derry.

Surviving relatives include two sons, William J. Costanzo and wife Virginia of Derry, and Charles E. Costanzo and wife Lee of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lois L. Dinger, 77

Lois L. Dinger, 77, Brookville, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

She was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Dora, a daughter of the late Reed Ernest and Hazel Lucetta (Geist) Kunselman.

Nov. 15, 1952, in Jefferson County, she married Harold E. Dinger, who preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1998.

Mrs. Dinger was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Brookville, where she was active in church affairs.

Clair R. Shaffer, 96

Clair R. Shaffer, 96, DuBois, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at his home.

He was born June 14, 1915, in DuBois, a son of the late Harvey and Martha (Horn) Shaffer.

He was married to Dora (Waite) Shaffer, who preceded him in death Feb. 29, 1980.

Mr. Shaffer was a retired self-employed farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for his service in World War II.

He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Reynoldsville American Legion and Reynoldsville Eagles. He enjoyed farming and hunting.

John W. Jenks, 91

February 9, 2012

John W. Jenks, 91, Leechburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at West Haven Manor.

He was born July 18, 1920, in Yatesboro, a son of Eugene H. and Sara (Evans) Jenks.

In 1937, at the age of 16, Mr. Jenks graduated from Punxsutawney High School as his class’ valedictorian and, four years later, graduated as valedictorian of his class at Penn State University, where he also earned the rare honor of being an industrial engineer inductee into Phi Beta Kappa.
