Helen M. Wolfgang, 94

Helen M. Wolfgang, 94, Brookville, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at home.

She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Frogtown, a daughter of the late John W. and Mary Louella (Gibson) Bartley.

Jan. 15, 1949, in Kingsville, she married Clarence P. Wolfgang, who preceded her in death Jan. 21, 1975.

Mrs. Wolfgang was a homemaker and an avid reader who enjoyed crafts. She was a past volunteer at the Pennsylvania Memorial Home, and she loved horses, enjoyed family and her dog Diamond.

William Clair Parrish, 86

William Clair Parrish, 86, Clover Run, Mahaffey, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Bell Township, a son of the late William Howard and Clara Rosella (Daisher) Parrish.

For 63 years, he was married to his loving wife, Eileen L. (London) Parrish, who survives.

Mr. Parrish was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines and receiving the Pacific War Zone Bar.

He retired after many years from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.

Clara Mae Sepe, 99

Clara Mae Sepe, 99, Richmond, Va., formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012.

She was born July 12, 1912, a daughter of the late Irwin and Ada Smith.
She was married to Nicholas Sepe, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sepe enjoyed family, baking and gardening.

Surviving relatives include her devoted son, Nick “Chip” Sepe and wife Susan; three adored granddaughters, Vickie, Valerie and Ronnie, and their husbands, Jim, Wade and Jason; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Helen Marie (Wolfe) Cook, 1921-2012

Helen Marie Cook was born in Sheridan, Wyo., Oct. 27, 1921, to Claude and Hattie Hysell.

During World War II, she moved to the Philadelphia area to assist with the war effort. She met and married Harold Cook, and they settled first in Hamilton and later moved to the family farm near Hamilton.

Helen ran her own business for 30 years and was well known in the area for her beautiful antique shop and expertise in all areas relating to the antique business.

Martha MacMillan, 86

Martha MacMillan, 86, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at home.

She was born April 6, 1925, in Meadville, a daughter of the late Margaret and Frank Waelde.

She graduated from Meadville High School in January 1943.

She worked for Talon Zipper during the war and was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol.

James Stanley Vrobel, 50

James Stanley Vrobel, 50, Stump Creek, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1961, in DuBois, a son of the late Jerome & Mary (Horzempa) Vrobel.

Mr. Vrobel was a graduate of Jefferson Technical School of Reynoldsville and earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from Penn State University.

He worked as an electrical engineer and a certified IR inspector.

Mr. Vrobel was born and raised in DuBois, and for several years, lived in North Carolina, and he had been back in the area the past two years.

Michael B. Pollock, 88

Michael B. Pollock, 88, of Latrobe, formerly of Punxsutawney and Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Latrobe Regional Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Aug. 26, 1923, in Greensburg, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Hanyo) Pollock.

He was married to Lucy E. (Sacco) Pollock, who survives, of Latrobe.

Mr. Pollock was a retired Pennsylvania State Police trooper and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Gertrude Ames, 93

Gertrude Ames, 93, Mayport, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 8, 2012, at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.

She was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Oliver Township, Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Wilson and Edna (Brosius) Hoffman.

Feb. 29, 1936, she married Howard Ames, who preceded her in death July 2000.

Mrs. Ames was a lifetime member of the Langville Methodist Church, where she was treasurer for 55 years and enjoyed teaching Sunday School.

Burr Berringer Sr., 86

Burr Berringer Sr., 86, Rossiter, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Rossiter, a son of the late Blair and Nellie (Smyers) Berringer.

He was married to Betty Lou (Mullins) Berringer, who preceded him in death Feb. 16, 2007.

Mr. Berringer was employed by I.A. Construction for 34 years before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the Punxsutawney Eagles and Moose.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an expert homemade wine maker.

Manley Jay “Butch” Toy, 69

Manley Jay “Butch” Toy, 69, Hamilton-Markton Road, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Oct. 26, 1942, in Rouseville, a son of the late John and Margaret (King) Toy.

He is the step-son of Bev Toy, who survives, of North Carolina.

In July 1968, he married Gloria Diane Carcella, who preceded him in death Nov. 19, 2005.

Mr. Toy served in the U.S. Navy.

He had previously worked as a welder for General Electric in Erie.

He enjoyed his family, playing guitar and woodworking.
