September 30th
Richard A. Garzoni, 87, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Eleanora, Pa., a son of the late Victor and Elva (Soliday) Garzoni.
On Nov. 22, 1946, he married Theresa V. Maruca, who survives.
He was owner and operator of Garzoni and Son Coal Company and Garzoni Excavating for many years and retired from Brocsious Trucking.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anita, Pa.
Edward L. Vitko, 92, of Indiana, formerly of Adrian, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at home at Clairvaux Commons in Indiana.
He was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Big Soldier, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kowack) Vitko. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mr. Vitko was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, where he earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
On May 4, 1946, he married Clara Elizabeth Jarbeck. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2006.
September 28th
Rose Bernardo (Dicello), 96, of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 9, 2012.
A native of Cecil, Pa., she married Frank Bernardo of Rossiter in 1940.
They moved to Detroit, where Frank worked for General Motors while Rose became a homemaker.
Rose lived in Michigan for many years, later moving to Florida and eventually settling in Green Valley near her three sons.
Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, who passed in 1976; sisters Jessie Russo and Angelina Morabito; brothers Frank and Gennar Dicello; and granddaughter Jennifer.
John B. O'Connor, 77, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 21, 1935, in West Springfield, Mass., a son of the late John B. and Lucy Nalwalk O'Connor.
He was a 1953 graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass., and graduated from Western New England College in West Springfield, Mass. with a B.S. degree in engineering.
He was first employed at Monsanto Corp. and then at Pratt Whitney Corp. in Massachusetts.

Terri Ann Anthony, 43, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Newnan Piedmont Hospital in Newnan, Georgia, after suffering a brief illness.
She was born May 11, 1969, a daughter of Leroy and Betty Anthony, and the late M. Charlene Furl Anthony.
She graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1987.
Terri worked for many years as a lay midwife and delivered approximately 2,700 babies throughout Pennsylvania, Georgia and Alabama.

Eleanor âEllieâ M. Havrilla, 80, of Punxsu-tawney, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at home.
Eleanor was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Barnesboro, a daughter of the late Francis John and Anna Theresa (Pacharka) Pawhutsky.
On May 14, 1951, at Saint Michaelâs Church in Glen Campbell, she married Richard Carl Havrilla. She was a very devoted and loving wife who cared for her husband for many years prior to his death. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2005.
She was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.
Glenn O. Snyder, 97, of Mayport (North Freedom), died on Tuesday evening, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Clarion Hospital.
He was born on January 26, 1915, in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County, the son of James C. and Otie E. (Wise) Snyder.
He married Geraldine L. (Miller) on Sept. 26, 1936, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1985.
Andrew M. Wheeler, 92, husband of Anna (Whitfield) Wheeler, formerly of Anita and Reynoldsville, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, where he had been a resident for more than four years.
Born in DuBois on Nov. 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mate (Murdoch) Wheeler.
Andy retired after many years as a machinist with the National Rubber Manufacturing Company in Akron, Ohio, making parts used in the construction of tires. After retirement, he moved from his home in Salem, Ohio, to the Whitfield Farm near Anita.
Mrs. Philena S. (Chappell) Stebbins, 100, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012.
She was born Feb. 28, 1912, in Belvedere, N.C., the daughter of Carrie and Emma Frances Chappell.
Attending Nyack College, Nyack, N.Y. in 1929, Philena met her late husband, Rev. John E. Stebbins Sr., and together they ministered for some 50 years in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches, with 42 of those years at Mahaffey and Burnside, Pa.
