June 29th
Betty L. (Caldwell) Frantz, 90, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, in Colorado Springs, Colo., where she had resided for the last 39 years.
She was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Punxsutawney, and she was always a proud daughter of Punxsutawney.
Sept. 5, 1948, she married Robert Frantz, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Frantz graduated from high school in 1938 and became a certified teacher in 1940, then a registered nurse in 1943.Â
In 1944, she entered the U.S. Army as a general nurse and served as a flight nurse from 1945 to 1947.Â

Paul Leon (Poke) Heitzenrater, 72, of Annapolis, Md., and Punxsutawney, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at home.
He was born April 20, 1940, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Vaughn H. and Ethel J. (Bodenhorn) Heitzenrater
Dec. 20, 1965, he married Ruth Ann (Whitesell) Heitzenrater, who survives.
Mr. Heitzenrater graduated in 1958 from the Punxsutawney Area High School.
During high school, he worked for Fleck’s Beverages.
After graduation, he worked at Freas Brothers Garage before joining the U.S. Navy in 1959.Â

Isabella S. Green, 95, a guest at the Jefferson Manor and formerly of Brookville, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Brookville Hospital.
She was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Brookville, a daughter of the late Vernon G. and Mertie (Ramer) Stewart.
Aug. 9, 1947, she married Joseph John Green, who preceded her in death April 21, 1988.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker and worked for the Brookville Glove Factory in her early years. During World War II, she moved to and worked in a factory in Philadelphia that made bomb making sites.
Mildred Louise (Priester) Shaffer, 87, Valier, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 27, 1924, in McCalmont Township.
Oct. 10, 1942, she married Clinton Eugene Shaffer, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1993.
She previously worked at Sportswear and the Adrian Hospital. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of Eastern Star.
Her enjoyments were being at home with her family, cooking and cleaning.

Dorothy L. Shirey, 93, Tanyard (Mayport), died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Clarion Hospital.
She was born June 19, 1919, in New Salem, a daughter of Boyd O. and A. Maude (Doverspike) Kunselman.
Nov. 25, 1937, she married J. Russell Shirey, who preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1988.
Mrs. Shirey will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving, giving, talented woman. She always had a welcoming smile and enjoyed visits from hundreds of folks to her home over the years.
She first attended the two-room schoolhouse in New Salem and then graduated from Hawthorn.

Florence Rosalind Greenblatt, 91, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Laurelbrooke Landing.
She was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Abraham and Jennifer (Brody) Pete.
March 28, 1942, she married Albert Greenblatt, who preceded her in death Oct. 30, 2006.
She was an avid Bridge player and also liked to read.
John Charles Himes, 74, Brookville, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at home.
He was born May 5, 1938, in Brookville, a son of the late Charles and Ida (Sisco) Himes.
May 14, 1988, he married Millie Knisley, who survives.
Mr. Himes was a retired truck driver for Ti-Brook.
He was a member of the Centerhill Church and the U.S. Army Reserves.
In addition to spending time with his family, Mr. Himes enjoyed farming, tractors, gardening, working with his hands, hunting, playing pinochle and helping people.
He was also a member of the Knox Dale Rod and Gun Club.
June 21st
Carolyn F. Black, 69, Punxsutawney, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Nov. 16, 1942, in Clarion, a daughter of the late William and Catherine (Brinkley) Sloan.
Ms. Black loved shopping, watching old movies and spending time with her family.
