January 30th
Paul Wachob, 52, Prospect, Tenn., passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012.
He was born Feb. 7, 1959, a son of Viola L. (Blondie) Bodenhorn Wachob and the late Lyman Wachob.
Mr. Wachob was a truck driver.
In addition to his mother, surviving relatives include a daughter, Charity Hollingsworth and husband Mike of Minor Hill, Tenn.; a son, Kent Wachob and wife Leslie of Prospect; a sister, Helen Booth and companion Ron Baker of Salem, Ind.; two brothers, Harry Boyd Wachob and wife Carolyn, and Jacob E. Wachob and wife Wanda, all of Punxsutawney; and four grandchildren.
January 29th
Frank Albert Hetrick, 92, Brookville, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Golden Living in Clarion.
He was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Knox Township, a son of the late Gilbert Jackson and Clara Etta (Wolfe) Hetrick.
April 22, 1944, he married the former Betty Jane Himes, who preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1996.
Mr. Hetrick was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a man of strong faith and encouraged others in their own faith.
He worked on the Pittsburgh and Shawmut Railroad.
Elva I. Martino, 83, Walston, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at home.
She was born July 26, 1928, in Grange, a daughter of the late A. Merle and Elsie (Powell) Bush.
Oct. 29, 1946, she married James A. Martino, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 2006.
She was a member of St. Anthonyâs Roman Catholic Church of Walston.
She was a good wife and a good mother.
She worked for Loree Footwear and the Punxsutawney Area School District
Beverly Nagy, 81, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.
She was born July 5, 1930, in Mars, a daughter of the late Homer Leslie and Helen Ruby (Wulfert) Sherwood.
Jan. 15, 1999, she married John Nagy, who preceded her in death March 4, 2007.
She worked as a seamstress at Pramco and Punxsutawney Sportswear Co. in Punxsutawney.
She was a member of the Moulennaires of the Senior Citizensâ Center.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her good friends, Jim and Sally Lantz.
Anna Raniowski, 89, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Raniowski was born July 19, 1922, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Kaprel) Cybak.
She was married to Matthew Raniowski, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Rossiter.
Mrs. Raniowski loved crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting, knitting and, most of all, her beloved grandchildren.
January 24th
E. Eugene (Gene) Elbel, 82, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at home.
He was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Rossiter, a son of the late Edward and Alice (Smith) Elbel.
June 25, 1949, he married Dorothy E. (Smith) Elbel, who survives. They were married 62 years.
Mr. Elbel enjoyed gardening, hunting, traveling and watching sports.
He was retired as a heavy equipment operator.
Gilbert Michael âJunieâ Piszker, 77, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Anita, a son of the late Gelly and Annie (Reves) Piszker.
He was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Piszker was a friendly and kind-spirited man. He enjoyed playing the lottery and keeping track of sports.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Anita Baseball team, and he liked paint-by-numbers oil painting.
January 23rd
Winfield Scott Harriger, 87, Reynoldsville, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.
He was born April 14, 1924, in Winslow Township, a son of the late Scott and Edna (Milliron) Harriger.
July 16, 1954, he married Sarah Annabelle Pifer Harriger, who preceded him in death Dec. 30, 2001.
Mr. Harriger was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reynoldsville.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a corporal in the U.S. Army.
Betty J. Pounds, 87, Marion Center, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at St. Andrewâs Village, Indiana.
She was born April 6, 1924, in Jackson Township, Cambria County.
Jan. 23, 1943, she married her husband, Paul R. Pounds Sr. Their 69th wedding anniversary was the day of her death.
Mrs. Pounds worked at Millerâs Market in Marion Center until her retirement.
In her spare time, she liked to crochet afghans and enjoyed flower gardening. She was also a very talented cook.
Mrs. Pounds was well known for her colorful sense of humor.
January 22nd
Edward D. Battaglia, 95, of Brookville, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Jefferson Manor.
He was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Kane, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Gillotti) Battaglia.
May 28, 1938, he married the former Josephine F. Cesario, who preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2004.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was also a member of the Brookville Eagles and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Battaglia was an entrepreneur. In the 1950s, he and his wife owned the R & J Bar in Pine Creek Township, which later became the R & J Motel.
