January 15th
Jeffrey (Petey) S. Peterman Sr., 39, Punxsutawney,died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 30, 1972, in Indiana, a son of Margaret Diane (Peterman) Anderson, who survives, of Punxsutawney.
Mr. Peterman was a roofer.
He was a member of the Punxsutawney FOE, the American Legion and the Walston Club.
Miriam Poole, 87, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Samuel Z. and Nora May (Hersh) Shaub.
She married Warren D. Slaybaugh, who preceded her in death in 1991.
She then married Bruce Poole, who preceded her in death in 2010.
Mrs. Poole was a registered nurse.
She was a member of the Punxsutawney Chapter No. 72, Order of the Eastern Star.
January 13th
Rebecca Larraine Phillips, 70, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Dec. 22, 1941, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Mitchell) Johnson.
She married Kenneth Ray Phillips, who preceded her in death July 14, 2003.
Mrs. Phillips worked as a nurse's aide for the Blose-McGregor Health Care Center.
January 11th
Ethel Mae Haney, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born June 11, 1920, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late John T. and Elizabeth (Molnar) Vadasy.Â
Sept. 23, 1936, she married Vincent L. Haney, who survives, of Punxsutawney. They were married for 75 years.
Mrs. Haney attended the Cloe United Methodist Church. She worked for the former Adrian Hospital and Rosenthal Dress Shop.Â
She loved crosswords, bingo, music, reading and dancing.
Phyllis C. McCabe, 79, Brookville, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Norristown, a daughter of the late Arnold and Clara Crabtree.
Jan. 31, 1953, in Norristown, she married Regis F. McCabe, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. McCabe work at the Refractory in Norristown, her fatherâs yarn factory and as a pork roll vendor in Atlantic City. She was also the bookkeeper for McCabe Drug Store, which she owned, and she also worked briefly for Nationwide Insurance in the 1950s.

Ruth Sowers Jeffries, 99, Brookville, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Jefferson Manor.
She was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Brookville, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Sarvey) Cummings.
She was married to Ralph F. Sowers, who preceded her in death May 19, 1981.
She then married Homer Jeffries, who preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1996.
Mrs. Jeffries was a homemaker and formerly worked with her family at Sowers Appliance Store in Brookville.
William L. Morrison Jr., 90, Brookville, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, of congestive heart failure under hospice care at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.
He was born May 17, 1921, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late William L. and Emma (Shields) Morrison Sr.
June 8, 1946, in Brookville, he married Gladys Chittester, who survives.
Mr. Morrison was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II with the WWII 346th Bomb Group in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Arnold L. âArnieâ Trayer, 59, Weedville, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at DRMC West after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born July 3, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late M. LeRoy and Gertrude (Fetterman) Trayer
June 3, 1972, he married Betty J. (Nunamaker), who survives, of Weedville.
Mr. Trayer was a graduate of St. Marys High School Class of 1970.
He worked 40 years at the same St. Marys' manufacturing plant, which carried many names, including Airco Speer, Airco Carbon and CG Graphite, etc.

Hazel J. Hinderliter, 99, formerly of Frostburg, died Sunday Jan. 8, 2012, in Towson, Md., where she lived with her daughter Nedra for three years.
She was born Aug. 28, 1912, a daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche (Anthony) Palmer.
Dec. 3, 1931, she married Kermit J. Hinderliter, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1994.
She was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
Bertha A. (Kauffman) Hoffman, 84, Erie, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Pleasant Ridge Manor East.
She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Lee) Kauffman.
She was married to James W. Hoffman, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hoffman was an 11-year resident of Erie and enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She lived in Punxsutawney for more than 30 years.
