Charles “Joe” Vassallo, 87

Charles “Joe” Vassallo, 87, of Cherry Street, Emporium, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Emporium, a son of the late Charles and Rose Gennacaro Vassallo.

On Sept. 25, 1952, in Emporium, he married Mary A. Johnson, who passed
away April 28, 2003.

On July 31, 2004, in Brockway, he married Jeanne Krauss, who survives.

Mr. Vassallo was a veteran of two wars, having served during World War II for three years with the Merchant Marines and during the Korean War for 26 months with the U.S. Army.

Donald Edward Meneely, 88, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, after a very caring, very supportive and very comfortable stay in the “private” Assisted Care Home of Julia Nobia in Plano, Texas.

Don was born on March 3, 1924, in Punxsutawney, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1941.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S. Navy destroyer Schbick (DD639) in the south Pacific, and he attained the rank of Ensign during the war.

After the war, Don graduated with a BA in Business Administration from University of Pittsburgh in 1949.
