Joseph C. "Joe" Woodarek, 68, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Woodarek was born July 4, 1942, in Salamanca, N.Y., a son of the late Carl and Vanadene (Shields) Woodarek.

He was married to Elizabeth J. (Colgan) Woodarek, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Woodarek was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired employee from the CSX Railroad, where he worked as a conductor.

He was a member of the Punxsutawney American Legion Post 62 and the Punxsutawney F.O.E. 1231.

Lt. Col. Charles Augustus Lindbergh Henry, 80, Big Run, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Henderson Township, one of 13 children to Joseph Newton and Ethel Faye (Deemer) Henry.

Rose Marie Lattanzia, 87

Rose Marie Lattanzia, 87, Creekside, died Monday, June 20, 2011, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.

She was born July 9, 1923, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Charles) Ferra.

She was married to Raymond Lattanzia, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lattanzia attended the Church of Resurrection, Ernest.

She was expecting to become a great-great-grandmother any day with the baby to be named Lakyn Rose.

Phyllis A. Vallis, 81

Phyllis A. Vallis, 81, Clarion, died Monday, June 20, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Timblin, a daughter of the late Leon and Nellie (Brocious) Vallies.

She attended the Callensburg Church of God and the Senior Center in Shippenville.

Surviving relatives include two brothers, Donald Vallies and Robert Vallies and wife Alice, all of Punxsutawney; three sisters, Nancy Papale of Penn Hills, Lois Bickel and husband Tom of Oil City, and Betty Mottern of Punxsutawney; and a special friend, Steven George.

Bernice M. Wetzel, 96, Rossiter, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.

She was born Oct. 23, 1914, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Clair H. and Velma (Fetterman) Brickell.

She was married to Norman R. Wetzel, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wetzel retired from the Punxsutawney Area School District in 1978 after serving as reading supervisor for many years.

She was a God-fearing lady who continued to serve others through volunteer work at her church and with a flow of encouraging words to those around her.

Anna Marie Fairman, 77

Anna Marie Fairman, 77, Walston, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital after a short illness.

She was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Petrolia, a daughter of the late John “Jack” and Anna Marie (Senott) Sitosky.

Jan. 23, 1960, she married Robert Mark “Bob” Fairman, who survives, of Walston.

Mrs. Fairman worked for Sylvania in Reynoldsville and Rollo-Jenson in Punxsutawney. She was a retired cafeteria worker from the Punxsutawney Area School District.

A graduate of Sykesville High, Mrs. Fairman lived most of her life in Walston.

John Paul Felix, 88

John Paul Felix, 88, DuBois, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Oct 22, 1922, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Peter and Anastasia (Kristoick) Felix.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II in the European Theater.

Mr. Felix worked for Consolidated Natural Gas Company for 26 years, until his retirement in 1984. Prior to that, he worked in the Kramer Mines and for Rockwell International Manufacturing.

Doris J. Meneely, 92

Doris J. Meneely, 92, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Meneely was born May 25, 1919, in Loop, a daughter of the late H. Merle and Edna (Domb) Hoover.

June 19, 1947, she married Clair L. Meneely, who preceded her in death in 1976.

Mrs. Meneely worked for Farmers & Miners Bank and the Punxsutawney Area School District. She was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the Punxsutawney Genealogical Society.

William E. Pounds, 90

William E. Pounds, 90, Punxsutawney, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Kent, a son of the late Ray Engle and Helen M. (Berquist) Pounds.

July 5, 1988, he married Magdalene E. Lucas, who survives.

He was a U.S. Army Tech 4 from 1942 to 1945, and he worked as a truck driver for Cook Moving Systems Inc. of Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr. Pounds was a member of the Rossiter American Legion and the Teamster Union of Buffalo.
