Esther Arlene Henry, 85

June 30, 2011

Esther Arlene Henry, 85, Lake Wales, Fla., died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at the Winter Haven Hospital.

She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Marion Center, a daughter of the late Clair and Gaye Griffith.

She was married to her husband, John Henry, who survives, for 69 years.
Mrs. Henry moved to Florida from Michigan 27 years ago. She retired from K-Mart as a cashier, and was a member of the South Lake Wales Church of God.

Those who knew her loved her smile and sweet spirit.

Angela (Restifo) Smith, 85

Angela (Restifo) Smith, 85, Punxsutawney, formerly of Smithville, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney.

A daughter of the late Guy and Maggie (Irato) Restifo, she was born July 14, 1925. in Rossiter.

Aug. 1, 1952, she married her husband, Carlton “Babe” Smith, who preceded her in death March 19, 2000.

Hazel M. Smith, 89

Hazel M. Smith, 89, formerly of Hamilton, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at AM/PM Personal Care Home, DeLancey.

She was born March 12, 1922, in Coolspring, a daughter of the late Lucas S. and Alma H. (Wonderling) Hall.

Nov. 17, 1939, she married Dwight S. Smith, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1994.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

James Richard Pifer, 90

James Richard Pifer, 90, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Merle Philip and Ida Elizabeth (Smith) Pifer. 

He is the last member of his family.

Mr. Pifer was a corporal with the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Nov. 15, 1946, he married Doris Ruth Bair, who survives.

Lloyd F. Stover, 90

Lloyd F. Stover, 90, DuBois, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born May 25, 1921, in Luthersburg, a son of the late J. Frank and Iva (Marshall) Stover.

Oct. 1, 1949, he married June (Gillung) Stover, who preceded him in death Dec. 18, 1997.

Mr. Stover graduated from Luthersburg High School and joined the U.S. Army Air Force, in which he served during World War II.

He was employed with Rockwell Manufacturing as an electrician until he retired in 1983.

The Rev. James W. Kane, 83, a retired United Methodist minister, of Erie, died Friday, June 24, 2011, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928, in NuMine, a son of the late William and Geneva Kane.

After the death of his parents, he went to live with his aunt, Lucille E. Klouse and her husband Andrew, and following Andrew’s death, William E. Walton.

Donald J. Buzard, 69

Donald J. Buzard, 69, DuBois, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 13, 1941, in Brookville, a son of the late John and Francis (Yeunosk) Buzard.

He was married to Rosemary Makofka, who survives.

Mr. Buzard was a member of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany.
He worked as a truck driver for the former Preston Trucking Co. and Fast Track Trucking Co. of Anita, as well as for Fullington Bus Company of DuBois.

Mr. Buzard was a member of F.O.E. of Falls Creek and enjoyed NASCAR and Steelers football.

James Richard Pifer, 90, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

R. Margaret (Peg) Elkin, 91

R. Margaret (Peg) Elkin, 91, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Jan. 24, 1920, in Porter Township, a daughter of the late Edward A. and Bertha Mae (Blose) Kennedy.

June 12, 1941, she married John M. Elkin, who preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1991.

Mrs. Elkin was a former member of the Zion Methodist Church in Porter, the Ladies’ Auxiliary of United Commercial Travelers, the Nash Ramblers bowling team, the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Adrian Hospital and the 500 Card Club.

Glenn L. Leasure, 81

Glenn L. Leasure, 81, Brookville, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was born Feb. 16,1930, a son of the late Everett J. and Margaret (Wise) Leasure.

Mr. Leasure was a mechanic at General Electric. He was also employed at Sam Jack Drilling and Fairman Drilling.

Protestant in faith, Mr. Leasure attended the Albion EUB Church.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, his cats, his bunnies and working with his hands, especially doing mechanical work.
