William F. McCracken Jr., 88, Brookville, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at home.
He was born May 26, 1923, in Brookville, a son of the late William Floyd and Harriet Edna (Ballentine) McCracken Sr.
June 11, 1949, in Corsica, he married Mary R. Temchulla, who survives.
Mr. McCracken was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater, 2nd Division, with campaigns in Saipan and Okinawa.
He worked as an engineer for the Pittsburgh & Shawmut Railroad in Brookville.
Dr. Richard â€śDickâ€ť Franklin Hoover Sr., 76, formerly of DuBois, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada.
He was born July 6, 1935, in DuBois, the son of the late Marion (Harold) and Josephine (Saunders) Hoover.
July 6, 1956, he married Dannalene Gearhart, who survives, of Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada.
In 1999, Dr. Hoover retired from Shopost Ironworks of Winnipeg, Canada. He was the president of the company.
He served as pastor for churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada.
Elsie Baker, 64, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.
She was born Sept. 20, 1947, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John Boyd Geer and Elsie (Bradshaw) Baker.
Ms. Baker was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Punxsutawney.
Surviving relatives include a son, Clyde Edward Baker of Punxsutawney; three brothers, Athur Evans and John Geer, both of Punxsutawney, and James Evans of Pittsburgh; a sister, Rachel Heckman of Punxsutawney; and a grandchild, Joshua Snaiir.
George Samuel Sawyer, 73, Hilton Head, S.C., passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, with his wife of 50 years by his side.
Born and raised in Punxsutawney, he graduated from Grove City University in 1959.
He then married the former Carol McCullough, and they began their teaching in the Pittsburgh area, where they resided until retiring and moving to Sun City, S.C.
Sam (as he was known to family and friends) enjoyed living in S.C., the weekly breakfast club with the guys, his cats â€” Tico and Fiona and collecting books.
Elizabeth M. Daughenbaugh, 91, Frostburg, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Mulberry Square & Elder Care Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.
She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Frostburg, a daughter of the late Clyde and Minnie (Newbold) Means.
Feb. 12, 1944, she married Walter G. Daughenbaugh. who preceded herÂ in death Dec. 20, 2007.
Mrs. Daughenbaugh spentÂ the early marriedÂ years of her life in Monument, before moving to Punxsutawney in 1944.
Harold Leroy Blystone, 77, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1934, in Center Township, Indiana County, a son of the late Blaine and Lilly Catherine (Butler) Blystone.
He was Methodist by faith.
Mr. Blystone worked as a farm hand on various farms in Pennsylvania and New York.
He enjoyed collecting cassette tapes and videos. He also liked to cook, especially fried green tomatos.
Lysle Clair Bailey, 67, Punxsutawney, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at home.
He was born Aug. 28, 1944, in Kittanning, a son of the late William W. and Helen L. (White) Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was retired from Rola-Jensen Inc. in Punxsutawney.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of private first class E-3.
He was an avid area bowler.
Surviving relatives include a brother, William W. Bailey Jr. and wife Connie of Beaver Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public viewing or services.
Dr. Lucinda Hart-GonzĂˇlez, 61, co-founder of Paradise Gardens and Farm, an organic farm and goat milk creamery at 2771 Paradise Rd., Reynoldsville, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at her sister's home in Concord, Mass., after a six-month battle with lung cancer.
She was born March 31, 1950, in Oakland, Calif., a daughter of Dr. Edward W. and Flori (Feder) Hart.
Dr. Hart-GonzĂˇlez graduated from Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1967, and received her bachelor's degree from UMass-Boston and her master's and doctorate in sociolinguistics from Georgetown University in 1980.Â
Dylan N. â€śShortyâ€ť Behrendt, 19, Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Armstrong County.
He was born Nov. 10, 1992, in DuBois, the son of Daniel Behrendt Sr., who survives, of Punxsutawney, and the late Roberta M. (Mietkiewicz) Behrendt.
He was a 2011 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. He was a member of the Ski Club and enjoyed dirt bikes, hunting, snowboarding and his friends. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, â€śUncle Pickleâ€ť and true friend who will be greatly missed.
Sean D. McConnaughey, 18, Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in Armstrong County.
He was born June 3, 1993, in Punxsutawney, the son of Brian and Dotti L. (McConnaughey) Gaffney, who survive, of Punxsutawney.
He was a 2011 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and a member of SS. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church.
He was employed by Proform Powdered Metals.
Sean loved skateboarding, swimming and his friends. A loving son, brother, grandson and true friend, he will be greatly missed.
