Fred E. “Poppy” Powell, 90

Fred E. “Poppy” Powell, 90, a guest at Laurelbrooke Assisted Living in Brookville, and formerly of Summerville, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Brookville Hospital.

He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Summerville, a son of the late Jacob and Carrie M. (Sayers) Powell.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Asian-Pacific Theater.

Mr. Powell worked as a miner and a laborer for Hanley Brick Co. in Summerville.

Alice Leona McHenry, 87

Alice Leona McHenry, 87, Erie, formerly of Clearfield, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Twinbook Medical Center, Erie.

She was born March 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Margarette (Lang) McQuown.

She was married to Lee A. McHenry, who preceded her in death July 11, 1977.

Mrs. McHenry was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Amaranth and the State College Choral Society. She also worked for Sylvania Corp. in Brookville during World War II.

Ralph Hughey, 75

Ralph Hughey, 75, Marion Center, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

He was born July 7, 1935, in Eldred Township, a son of the late Carmen “Jack” Hughey and Mary (Reed) Orcutt.

He was married to Rita (Uplinger) Hughey, who survives, of Marion Center.

Mr. Hughey was a former East Mahoning Township roadmaster for many years. He was a dozer operator in earlier years and worked at the Marion Center Speedway for more than 30 years. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and being outdoors, and was a pashionate animal lover, especially cats.

Martha Schettino, 100

Martha Schettino, 100, Home, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Scenery Hill Manor, Indiana.

She was born July 31, 1910, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Merle and Mary Ann (McEwen) Grube.

May 18, 1933, she married Samuel Schettino, who preceded her in death Nov. 16, 1988.

Mrs. Schettino was a homemaker, a life member of the Clara Hall Society and a former member of the Reynoldsville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving relatives include several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
