Hard work, preparations lead up to this weekend’s Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine church festival

The ladies of Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine Church are shown here taking a break after cooking and cleaning to get ready for their church festival, which will be held Saturday evening from 5:30 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Four injured in three-car East Mahoning accident

Four people were transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital with unknown injuries following a three-vehicle accident that occurred on East Mahoning Street on Wednesday morning in Punxsutawney, when a red Dodge Dakota was struck by a silver Subaru and a red Peterbilt tractor trailer.

Punxsy high school’s new fitness center & weight room dedicated at ceremony

On Tuesday evening, the Punxsutawney Area High School held the dedication ceremony for the new fitness center and weight room facility.

Members of the Punxsutawney Athletic Foundation (PAF) and the Cook family were on hand as key contributors to the project, and students from Jeff Tech who helped draft the model for the facility were also in attendance.

Mother Nature cooperates just enough for canopy to appear in Barclay Square

Volunteers assist with the construction of the famous canopy that will take center stage in Barclay Square for the remainder of the summer.

Police warn of scams

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Captain Bernard J. Petrovsky, Commanding Officer, Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C, Punxsutawney, issued the following reminder to the public Tuesday:

“Always be aware of criminals who are in a perpetual quest to defraud you of your hard-earned money and assets.

“Troopers are continually gathering intelligence in an attempt to identify current scams so, in turn, the public can be made award of those crimes.

Rotary Club contributes to new inflatable boat for Punxsutawney Fire Department

The Punxsutawney Fire Department Dive Team launched its new inflatable boat that was purchased by the Punxsutawney Rotary Club.

Voss sworn in by Big Run Mayor; lawn waste ordinance agreed upon

Big Run Mayor Joe Buterbaugh (right) is pictured swearing in Cliff Voss, the new Big Run Council member, at Monday's meeting.

Council also discussed a potential ordinance that would fine residents who blow their lawn waste into the streets, which clogs the storm drains.

Gobbler’s Knob Trail open to public

A crowd gathered Saturday for the official ribbon cutting of the Gobbler’s Knob Trail located at — where else — Gobbler’s Knob.

Festival at Big Run

There will be an ice cream and strawberry festival held in Cox's Hall, Big Run, on Friday and Saturday evenings, June 15th and 16th, under the auspices of the Ladies' Aid Society for the benefit of the M.E. Church.

A very pleasant time is anticipated and all are invited to attend.
