PAHS to host Winter Queen’s Court ceremony Friday at halftime

The PAHS senior class recently chose six senior girls to represent the 2015 Winter Queen’s Court. Members of this year’s court include Amber Carlson, Courtney Huffman, Kaston Mohney, Shaina Painter, Ivy Phillips and Alyssa Reitz.

The senior girl with the highest number of votes will be named Queen. The runner-up in votes will receive the title of Princess.

The Queen and Princess will be crowned during the PAHS boys’ basketball game tonight. The Winter Formal dance in their honor will be held on Feb. 7.

Overseas couple weds on Groundhog Day

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It was the perfect day for a wedding, and for one couple deeply in love, it was a dream come true.

Alexander Lasarev, who hails from Canada, finally married his lovely bride, Isabelle Wagner, who hails from Germany. The couple, who share a great love of not only Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney, are also huge fans of the movie "Groundhog Day" — so much that they made a mini-movie called "Tribute to Groundhog Day," which can be found on YouTube.

BREAKING NEWS: PHIL SAYS #SIXMOREWEEKSOFWINTER

Just after 7:10 a.m., the "Top Hats," also known as the members of the Groundhog Club's Inner Circle, made their ceremonial march toward the stage, beginning the keynote event of a weekend filled with activity throughout the town of Punxsutawney.

Members of the Inner Circle greeted the crowd after they worked their way through it, then it was "time to get serious about the weather," as Jeff Lundy, vice president of the Groundhog Club, announced. At that point, the official festivities began with the introductions of the members of the Inner Circle.

Lorenzo, Curtis given Woman & Man of the Year honors

PUNXSUTAWNEY — When Michelle "Boo" Lorenzo found out she was the 2014 Punxsutawney Woman of the Year, she was both shocked and humbled.

"I don't deserve this," Lorenzo said after making her way up to the podium.Lorenzo, who was very touched, said that she tries to do the best she can.

Deeley: 'Phil is ready to do his thing'

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The president of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club said that Punxsutawney Phil, the world's only true weather-forecasting groundhog, isn't afraid to take on the Super Bowl again this year.

Bill Deeley, Groundhog Club president, said all they can do is do their thing.

"Luckily, we don't have a Pennsylvania team in it, so we won't have to compete with them, although I wish that we did," Deeley said, adding that the banquet is on Saturday night, mainly because they can't use the school on Sunday.

PAHS Groundhog Royalty to be crowned at Groundhog Banquet

Due to the school cancellation the 2015 Groundhog King and Queen will be crowned at the Groundhog Banquet, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night, at PAHS. Inner Circle member Jason Grusky announced that Colton Brooks and Janell Burkett have been chosen as the 2015 Groundhog King and Queen.

School Cancelled for Punxsutawney Area School District/ SS.C.D.

The Punxsutawney Area School District has announced that school has officially been canceled for today due to weather inclement. SS.C.D. has also been cancelled for today.

PAHS prognostication: Groundhog royalty to be crowned today!

The PAHS senior class chose four senior boys and four senior girls to represent the 2015 Groundhog King and Queen Court. The four candidates for king include Colton Brooks, Jacob Gotwald, Zachary Moore and Brennan Winters. The four candidates for queen include Logan Brooks, Janell Burkett, Allison Fye and Kassidy Vizza.

The king and queen will be deemed as such by gaining the highest number of votes from the senior class.
