Chucks on top of things at Districts

With just two rounds left to unfold -- the consolation finals and the winners' bracket finals -- Punxsy's wrestlers are on top of things at the District IX Tournament. Eight wrestlers are already locked in to advancing, with two others in position to win a battle in the third-place round.

Six Punxsy wrestlers -- Elijah Lambiotte, Stone Smith, Kaleb Young, Perry Arrington, Keegan Fischer and Travis Perry -- won their opening matches to advance to tonight's finals.

Gallitzin man killed in Indiana County mining accident

INDIANA COUNTY — Late Friday evening, the Indiana County Coroner's Office reported the death of a 29-year-old Gallitzin man as a result of a mining accident at the Rosebud Heilwood Mine, 6314 Route 403 Highway North, Indiana County.

The first call came in to Indiana County 911 at 2:10 p.m. on Friday, the release said, and the decedent, Todd Trimble, was identified at the scene by Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr.

Daylily fundraiser to feature Charlie Chen food

YOUNG TOWNSHIP — If you like Chinese food (more specifically, the original Charlie Chen's Chinese food), then you'll want to attend Saturday's fundraiser at the First Church of God gymnasium in Young Township.

Michelle Stahlman, director of the Daylily Learning Center at the First Church of God, said the original Charlie Chen will be cooking for everyone in the Punxsutawney area on Saturday.

PSP: Three charged with endangering welfare of children in DeLancey

DELANCEY — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police have reported an incident of endangering the welfare of children and Act 64 violations that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday at 401 Adrian Rd. in Young Township.

Police said that they are investigating incidents involving three juveniles — 15 years old, six months old and one year old — all residents of DeLancey.

Jeff Tech highlights offerings as part of CTR Month

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — Students and faculty at Jeff Tech are joining others across the nation during the month of February to celebrate National Career and Technical Educational (CTE) Month.

Barry Fillman, new Jeff Tech director, said that the month is all about the opportunity that students have when they come through this type of setting.

Skarbek proposes bandstand bench project at borough council meeting

PUNXSUTAWNEY — An AmeriCorps teacher in the Punxsutawney Area School District, Jennifer Skarbek, presented a project proposal to Punxsutawney Borough Council called "Seats of Service" at a recent meeting that would allow for permanent seating to be installed around the bandstand in Barclay Square in Punxsutawney.

Skarbek said "Seats of Service" would be the installation of permanent seating in front of the bandstand in Barclay Square.
