PUNXSUTAWNEY — Members of the Class of 2014 are hard at work preparing for the 2014 Variety Show, which will be held in the auditorium of the Punxsutawney Area High School on April 3, 4 and 5.

Familiar Faces Friday!

PUNXSUTAWNEY— Loretta Shaver is a familiar face. You may recognize her as a volunteer at the Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, where she puts in long hours helping wherever she can.

Shaver was born and raised in Maryland.

Borough Police, Fire Dept. will go toe-to-toe on the court for Betty’s Angels

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It will be the battle of public safety forces as the Punxsutawney Fire Department and Punxsutawney Borough Police will come together on the hard court at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC) tonight.

The firefighters and police officers will face off in the PACC gymnasium to raise money for Betty's Angels — a Relay For Life team.

Melissa McAfoos, who organized the event, is literally in the middle, as she's a member of the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Department and is a dispatcher for the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department.

Local youngsters celebrate Girl Scouting Week

Girl Scouts in the Punxsutawney Service Unit celebrated Girl Scouting Week March 10-14, wrapping up the celebration with a Friday-night dance at the
Punxsutawney Area Middle School.

There were 105 girls in attendance, ranging in age from kindergarten to 9th grade.

Bizousky Family Practice & Bizquickcare cuts ribbon

On Wednesday, the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Bizousky Family Practice Associates and BIZQUICKCARE at 104 West Mahoning St., Suite 205 in the Mahoning Findley building. Dr. Frank Bizousky said they were happy to announce the opening of Punxsy's first walk-in clinic where patients can walk in right off the street and receive medical care. "Our slogan is, 'Walk in sick, get better quick,'" Bizousky said, adding that Deb Rummel, nurse practitioner, has 16 years experience as a school nurse with an interest in pediatrics and women's health.

PSP-DuBois chase begins in Falls Creek, carries into Jefferson County

FALLS CREEK — DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police reported an incident of fleeing and eluding that was initiated at the Falls Creek Sheetz in Sandy Township, Clearfield County and ended in a wooded area along Smithtown Road in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Police said that at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Monday, they were alerted by the Reynoldsville Police Department that Dustin L. Douthit, 28, Falls Creek, fled from a traffic stop in a 2005 Chevrolet Colroado extended cab pickup truck, blue in color, with damage on its passenger side.

PAHS KEY CLUB TRAVELS TO DISTRICT CONVENTION: TWO MEMBERS APPOINTED TO DISTRICT BOARD

The PAHS Key Club recently attended the PA District Convention, where individuals, as well as the club as a whole, earned major recognition for their dedication to community service.

PUNXSUTAWNEY— Some people are born with an enormous amount of talent, and for one local little boy, that talent is music.

Seven-year-old Alex Shumaker has been playing the drums since he was 5 years old.

A self-taught drummer, he has the amazing ability to listen to a song and then perform it on the drums.
