REYNOLDSVILLE â€” Monday night, 4-H members and leaders were recognized at the annual 4-H Leader Recognition Dinner and 4-H Awards Program.
The program was held at the Foundry in Reynoldsville; Susan Alexander, Penn State Cooperative Extension educator, welcomed everyone in attendance.
The ceremony celebrated 4-H volunteers â€” those who just started, and those who have contributed most of their lives to the program.
Lois Pifer, who has served for Jefferson County's 4-H program for 40 years, was recognized for her significant service.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Once again, it was another successful year for Fox's Pizza Den's "Pizza and Prevention" fund-raiser, as more than $31,000 was raised for the Punxsutawney Fire Department Saturday.
Despite the rainy weather, the locally owned Punxsutawney pizza shop sold 3,444 Big Daddy Pizzas â€” a record breaker â€” 12 percent more than last year, which also broke records with sales of 3,072 pizzas, said Scott Anthony, owner of Fox's in Punxsy.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” There was a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 10:40 a.m. Saturday on Route 310 north near the Elk Run Firehall.
According to Punxsutawney Borough Police, a Toyota Corolla driven by Tanya R. Hoover, Rossiter, was traveling north on Route 310 near the Elk Run Firehall when a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Steven E. Przybrowski, DuBois, stopped in front of her vehicle, which struck the rear of his Blazer.
Police said the crash caused major damage to Hoover's vehicle, while Przybrowski's vehicle sustained minor damage.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” After nearly seven years in the planning, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Area Transportation Authorityâ€™s (ATA) Punxsutawney Transit Center building was held Friday.
â€śI think that a lot of people â€” and certainly the board members of ATA â€” didnâ€™t think this was going to happen,â€ť David Gordon, chairman of the ATA Board of Directors, said.
Punxsy is the first of seven transit centers set for construction, and Gordon said he hopes the others go a little easier than this one did.
The Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company took possession of its new 2011 Ferrara engine/pumper Thursday. The vehicle possesses a 1,500-gallon pump for 1,000 gallons of water, as well as a 30-gallon compressed air foam system. If the weather works out, you could see the new truck during â€śTouch the Truckâ€ť as part of Saturdayâ€™s â€śPizza & Preventionâ€ť downtown.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” A Pittsburgh man accused of shooting two Punxsy men last week had his bail set at $2 million during his arraignment Thursday, just hours after he was apprehended in the Pittsburgh area.
Christopher L. Thornhill, 24, faces two counts each of attempted criminal homicide; aggravated assault; recklessly endangering another person; and weapons violations stemming from the Sept. 22 incident near a residence along Cranberry Alley.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Having learned that the need is greater than ever among American forces stationed in Afghanistan, members of the Jefferson County chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) will conduct their third county-wideÂ â€śSupport the Troopsâ€ť campaign.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” The Torrence Street traffic light project was given a green light â€” literally â€” Wednesday, as the new traffic signals were put into service by sub-contractor Perram Electric of Ohio.
Roger Steele, chairman of Punxsutawney Borough Councilâ€™s Public Works Committee, said through the project, council is exploring a way to decrease the traffic flow on Mahoning Street, with the widening of Torrence Street as part of a PennDOT traffic study.
