A cupcake parade was held recently at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library as a part of Screen-Free Week.
Local organizations held indoor and outdoor activities for children, in the hopes of giving them the opportunity to be more active.
The purpose of Screen-Free Week was to get kids away from televisions, computers and iPad screens — a mission that lasts far beyond one week a year.

This recycling site in Sportsburg is slated to close July 1.
Donna Cooper, solid waste/recycling coordinator for the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority, announced the closure last week at the Young Township supervisors’ meeting.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — At Monday’s meeting, Punxsutawney Borough Council had Borough Police Chief Tom Fedigan read a letter that he submitted to council detailing how the burglary investigations are progressing.

Foster parents throughout Jefferson County were recognized Monday night at the Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner held at the Anchor Inn in Punxsy.
It's the season of giving back to those who help with the education system.
Jeff Kuntz, chairperson of the Community Focus Committee, presented checks to eight individuals, who accepted them on behalf of the organizations they represent.
Checks are distributed through the Punxsutawney Education System several times a year and give money to organizations from which students benefit.

CHEST TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State police reported that 60 large trout — many of which were to be donated to a children’s fishing derby — were stolen between May 4 and May 5 from the Susquehanna Valley Rod & Gun Club, at a fish hatchery on Holes Road in Clearfield County.
Police said the total loss is estimated at $1,800.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 938-0510.
Following a successful fundraiser event, Sherry Huber (left), shift manager at Punxsy McDonald’s, and Karen Love, Punxsy McDonald’s general manager, pack up donations of food and personal care items to send to troops stationed overseas.
A drawing for the winners of two freezers full of meat was held Wednesday at Lowmaster and Warden in Punxsutawney.
The winners are: Paul Lieberum of St. Petersburg, Pa., and Richard Grecco of Brockway (not pictured).
The proceeds benefit VFW No. 2076 in Punxsutawney.

Not Guilty
In the case of the commonwealth vs Oliver P. Nicola, at Clearfield last week the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Mr. Nicola had been charged with removing lumber from Sykes Bros. mill at Newtonburg, illegally.

REYNOLDSVILLE — With the warmer weather finally upon us and signs of spring and summer popping up daily, many folks are starting to do their spring cleaning, and a part of that process is often putting away some of the things that aren't used as much in the warmer months.
