PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsutawney Eagle Riders motorcycle club its revving up for its first-ever âBurrow Thunderâ Saturday.
The 76-mile trip â which will be held rain or shine â departs from the F.O. Eagles No. 1231 parking lot.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the ride departing at noon and returning by 5 p.m.
The Groundhog Day Festival held its annual âTeddy Bear Picnic, sponsored by the Punxsutawney Career Womenâs Club, Tuesday at Barclay Square.(From left) winners in âMy Bear and Iâ â Emily Dobbins, first place; Mary Sue Kimmerle, second; and Lauren Kennedy, third. The festival continues today.

YOUNG TOWNSHIP â A Scottdale man was flown to an area trauma center following a two-motorcycle accident that occurred at 1:45 p.m. Monday on Route 36, Young Township, in front of Ken McFarland Selective Cars.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle operated by Robert Bushmyer of Scottdale was traveling north on Route 36 when he struck a Polaris Victory motorcycle traveling in front of him driven by his son Eric T. Bushmyer, who had slowed to make a right turn into Ken McFarland
Monday night was all about ambiance at the 45th Annual Groundhog Festival as Savannah Jack performed in Barclay Square. The festival continues today.

A Smart Parrot
Senator Mitchell has a parrot of which he is very proud. It is a great talker, and something of a singer, and the Senator tells of its smartness with as much enthusiasm as a fond father relates the cute things said by his two-year-old offspring. The parrot calls the Senator "Jim," and his wife "Cal."

PUNXSUTAWNEY â Not even Punxsutawney Phil could have prognosticated the plan for this proposal.
Sarah O'Donnell and Jeff White enjoyed the âPhantastic Phils!â â especially the one in front of The Punxsutawney Spirit office on Pine Street â so much, they returned to Punxsy Friday to track down the remaining eight statues they couldn't find in December.
But Friday, Jeff â with help from Spirit staff, Punxsutawney Phil himself and his co-handler, John Griffiths â pulled off a larger plan: Propose to Sarah in front of their favorite âPhantastic Phil!â at The Spirit office.
PERRY TOWNSHIP â A young Amish girl was struck by a car Friday afternoon after she ran out in front of the vehicle along Route 210, Perry Township.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, a 1996 Honda Accord driven by a female whose name was not available at Spirit press time was traveling south on Route 210 when a four-year-old Amish girl ran out onto the highway and into the path of her vehicle.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Just in time for the Fourth of July, the 45th-annual Groundhog Festival kicks off Sunday.
With two entertainment groups coming back for round two, and all-new acts throughout the rest of the week, Groundhog Festival Committee Chairman Roger Steele is anxious for kick-off.
"I do get nervous days before the festival starts," he said. "But I know everyone that helps get this thing up and running does a great job of it. I'm excited to see how things turn out this year."

BROOKVILLE â During a Jefferson County Jail Inspection-Intermediate Punishment Board meeting Monday, county Commission Chairman Paul Corbin congratulated the jail staff and Warden Tom Elbel on the results of the jailâs bi-annual inspection.
For the third consecutive time, the Jefferson County jail scored 100 percent on its inspection, which took place June 6.
The State Depart-ment of Corr-ections performs the inspection.
To achieve the perfect rating, the jail had to spend some money on routine maintenance items, such as painting.
