PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” A special Veterans Day program was held Monday morning at the Punxsutawney Area High School for local veterans.

In honor of Veterans Day, several local agencies will be hosting programs today:
â€¢ Punxsy will host an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Baptist Church;
â€¢ Big Run will be hosting a 7 p.m. ceremony at the Big Run War Memorial;
â€¢ Mulberry Square will host a program to honor the veterans at 10:15 a.m.;
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” It may seem a bit early to think about Christmas, but area businesses downtown are getting ready for the hustle and bustle that comes with Christmas shopping.
A variety of stores will be participating and offering great deals, as Mistletoe Madness 2014 will be held this Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at 9 a.m. downtown.

The 2014 PAHS PowderPuff King and Prince, as voted by this year's senior class, were crowned during halftime of Wednesday night's annual PowderPuff game between the Sumo Seniors and Jacked-Up Juniors. This year's court (top photo) included (from left) Josh Volchko with escort Courtney Huffman; Luke Shiock with escort Brooke Stello; Marshall Richardson with escort Amber Ward; Connor Rees with escort Shaina Painter; Keegan Fischer with escort Hunter Shields; and Brandon Blose with escort Logan Brooks. Richardson was crowned King, and Blose was crowned Prince.
Pennsylvania Democratic businessman Tom Wolf has unseated the stateâ€™s Republican governor. 65-year-old Wolf, poured his personal fortune into the race and hammered the governor over declining education spending. Corbett, also 65 and a blunt former prosecutor, trailed Wolf badly in most pre-election polls.
A lot of time and effort go into planning a campaign for a political office, and in the end, it all comes down to one night. Last night was that night in Pennsylvania, and on the ballot, there were three different elections that voters had to choose from. All three of those elections spanned an area larger than Jefferson County, as well.

Today is the day for those who have been counting down the minutes to the 2014 elections, and with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., there's plenty of time for those with busy schedules to find their way to their respective polling locations.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” As parents, we often have to make some tough decisions, especially in regards to our childrensâ€™ education.
One of those decisions is whether to send our children to a public or private school.
