Dobson’s Store to close its doors

After about 49 years in business, Dobson's Store in Worthville will close its doors today. Pictured is owner Elmer Dobson behind the counter on one of the country store's last evenings of operation. He opened the store in 1965 after the conclusion of his military service. He said he plans to leave the building where it is, as part of the history of Worthville.

Construction at water treatment plant to protect service against wet weather

BIG RUN — Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC) has announced the start of construction to install a concrete wall to protect the company's Punxsutawney Water Treatment Plant, located on the East Branch of the Mahoning Creek, from flooding during extreme wet weather events.

Josephine Posti, PAWC community relations coordinator, said the cost of this plant improvement is approximately $225,000.

Reynoldsville woman killed in Young Twp. one-car accident near Crawfordtown Road

YOUNG TOWNSHIP — A Reynoldsville woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday on Route 310 near Crawfordtown Road, Young Township.

According to PSP-Punxsutawney, a vehicle driven by Regina M. Cable, 75, Reynoldsville, struck a tree and left the roadway while traveling south on Route 310, Young Township.

For unknown reasons, Cable’s vehicle, a 2009 Nissan Altima, was seen traveling off the west shoulder of Route 310, and impacted a embankment.

Local couple spreading joy with Christmas display

PUNXSUTAWNEY — For many, Christmas is a magical season of giving and receiving. However, for some, it is a season that brings creativity to life.

For local resident Bonnie Bennett, it is a season where her creativity comes to life.

Every year, Bennett sets up her Christmas village scene with tiny houses, shops and little figurines.

Light Up a Child’s Life campaign concludes with total over $77,000

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Another successful "Light Up A Child's Life" campaign wrapped on Friday at Miller Brothers Furniture in Punxsutawney, with an approximate total of $77,460 raised through the annual radio-thon on WPXZ 104.1 F.M.

Lindsey Herzing, regional manager for Make-A-Wish, thanked Punxsutawney once again for the great support.

Day 4 of Make-A-Wish campaign sees total surpass $30,000

It was Day 4 of the "Light Up a Child's Life" campaign for Make-A-Wish on Thursday morning, and both PAMS and PAHS participated in the campaign. Pictured are members of the PAHS Choir, who sang Christmas carols. As of Thursday morning, Lindsey Herzing, Make-A-Wish regional manager, said the campaign had raised almost $24,000. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Make-A-Wish was at Miller Brothers Furniture, where the campaign continued with the annual auction. Herzing said that this year, they are doing something a bit different by showing everything that is being bid on.

Light Up a Child’s Life campaign over $21,000

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Day 3 of the Punxsutawney "Light Up a Child's Life" campaign for Make-A-Wish started off with a bang on Wednesday, with Punxsutawney native and Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco and his wife helping out at Caterina's Cafe for the Make-A-Wish campaign.

In the afternoon, Make-A-Wish traveled to Mulberry Square, where the SS.C.D. Children's Choir sang beautiful Christmas carols for the residents.
