FESTIVAL FOR THE FIGHT

A special indoor carnival fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the Punxsy CMA Church. Tickets will be available for carnival games, balloon animals, popcorn, cotton candy, entertainment, the concession stand and prizes. All proceeds go to benefit Maddox Hyde and his fight against cancer. The fundraiser is being put together by Emily Schall, who wants to help Maddox out. Pictured here are Schall (left) and Hyde.

Commissioners recognize causes at busy meeting

BROOKVILLE — At their most recent meeting on Tuesday, the Jefferson County commissioners issued proclamations related to domestic violence, disability employment and drug and alcohol abuse and also heard from members of the community on humane control and the future of the coal industry.

West End students get ‘fired up for fundraising’

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Central Fire Department recently presented one of the most important lessons that students needed to hear — one that could ultimately save their lives — on fire prevention and safety for the students at West End Elementary School during Fire Prevention Week on Friday.

Parkview Elementary students learn all about fire safety

ANITA — No one likes to think that their home may catch on fire, but it is something that is more common than many realize.

Friday morning, the students at Parkview Elementary learned about fire safety at the Fire and Prevention program, hosted by the McCalmont Township Fire Department in Anita. Assistant Fire Chief Critter Porada taught the students some fire safety techniques and talked about what they should do if there is ever a fire.

Groundhog Club hosts Open House; Guests get a look into Inner Circle workings

PUNXSUTAWNEY — On Thursday evening, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club opened its doors to the public for an open house. Katie Donald, executive director, said that this open house was being put on as a "thank you to the community for its support with Groundhog Day."

Masonic Lodge donates to local food pantries

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Four Punxsutawney area food pantries received a donation from the John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534 F&AM Masonic Lodge in Punxsutawney on Tuesday, prior to the organization’s meeting.

Chucks set to take on St. Marys

In this photo from last week's game against A-C Valley, Punxsy captains (from left) Dakota Thomas, Andrew Fedigan, Keegan Fischer and Dalton Maines make their way to midfield for the coin toss. This week, Punxsy will rely on its captains and many more, as the Chucks look for a full-team, start-to-finish effort at St. Marys.

Open House to show support for Brayden

Brayden Wyant is a very strong young man who has been through a lot in his five years on this Earth. Monday, he faces another surgery.

To show Brayden how much the community cares, Punxsy Pizza will be having a special "Open House" from 6 to 8 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 10.
