You may recognize her a member of the First Assembly of God who helps out with her church.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — There are some new and exciting changes at The Punxsutawney Spirit, and one of those changes is the move into the world of social networking.

Just recently, we created a Facebook Page for The Punxsutawney Spirit in order to better reach those in the community and surrounding areas.

Our main focus is to interact with our readers and to seek feedback on how we are doing.

This site will allow you — the readers a chance to comment on the articles and stories that we feature.

Eerie clouds; no confirmed tornado; no electricity

Here we go again, as more clouds that could have become tornadoes swirled through the Punxsutawney area at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday and cut power to many.

Punxsy filmmaker meets pro skateboarder Tony Hawk in process of filming skatepark documentary

In this picture, Punxsutawney filmmaker Jacob Brady (left) interviews professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, as Kevin Byars (foreground) records the interview.

Brady’s film will document the process of a memorial skatepark being built in Carnegie, and Hawk’s foundation is involved with helping fund the park.

BRRR! It’s on! Big Run VFD takes ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Members and family of the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Wednesday in front of their fire hall in Big Run.

In the background is their new electric sign that was donated to them recently.

Groundhog Picnic, Phil Phest set for Saturday at Gobbler’s Knob

The 116th Annual Groundhog Picnic and Phil Phest will be held together this year, from 1 to 9 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 6, at Gobbler’s Knob.

Pizza & Prevention winning logo

The winners for the Punxsy Pizza and Prevention logo contest were announced at Punxsy Pizza on Wednesday.

The Corn Cob Club held its annual retreat, this year at a new location at Bill Deeley's farm.

In recent years, the annual event was held at the farm of Judge Edwin Snyder, who passed away last year.

BIG RUN — Joe Buterbaugh is a familiar face. He is best known as the mayor of Big Run, a position he has held for 32 years. Or perhaps you have seen him throughout the community, where he is known to many as “The Candyman.”
