PUNXSUTAWNEY — When it comes to television, cellphones, computers and other electronic devices, they appear to be a necessity that no one can live without. Not one single day goes by when someone isn't sitting in front of some sort of screen, whether its to watch a lineup of television shows or to spend hours surfing the web.
Family quality time barely exists, as the world of technology continues to pull loved ones in opposite directions.
April 23rd
With renovations coming up, the Punxsutawney Memorial Library decided to celebrate with a Hard Hat Party last Saturday afternoon.
The party was a success, with children from all over the community and surrounding areas stopping by.
Those in attendance each got orange construction vests and had the chance to pick out a free book, play games, build and construct whatever they desired using a variety of recyclable materials, and, most of all, interact with other children their age.
The Jefferson County Commissioners proclaimed that the month of May will be Older Americans Month in Jefferson County, a time to recognize and honor older adults and the people who care for them.
It may have been cold and windy on Saturday morning, but that didn't stop the Rails-to-Trails Cleanup.
Members and volunteers who braved the cold gathered at the Water Street Trailhead for a day of cleaning up the trail.
Among the volunteers who lent a helping hand were some local Girl Scouts.
April 22nd
Mackenzie Rosenberger, 15, a student at Punxsutawney Area High School, has been chosen to perform in the national organization known as The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.
This summer, she will travel and perform in the 2013 European Concert
Tour, which includes stops in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg.
The cost of the trip is $6,200, and that does not include the uniform, passport and currency packs.
Rosenberger is doing her best to raise the money by having bake sales, and she hopes to have a car wash, too.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Following its March 14 concert featuring the Side Street Strutters, the Punxsutawney Concert Association has begun its subscription campaign to enlist support for the 2013-2014 season.
The new season of performances by visiting musicians and entertainers will continue a tradition of live concerts begun in the late 1930s in the area.
The anticipated 2013-2014 season will introduce area subscription members, patrons and benefactors to three shows of new talent and uniqueness.
The season will begin in September 2013 with The Gothard Sisters.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough Police are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian that occurred at
approximately 12:45 p.m. last Monday at the intersection of West Mahoning Street and Church Street in Punxsutawney.
According to police, an unnamed female reported that she was struck by a small car while she was crossing at the crosswalk near Church Street on West Mahoning Street.
A three-vehicle accident occurred at 10:57 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Route 36 and Elderberry Hill Road in Bell Township and sent two people to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Nikki L. Adams, 21, Punxsutawney, was driving a 2008 Jeep Patriot and allegedly failed to realize that traffic was stopped on the highway ahead.
As a result, police said she struck a 2008 Mazda G6 driven by Jeff L. Turner, 29, Mahaffey, in the rear bumper.
