Council approves Wachob as future fire department chief

Council enacts anti-tobacco policy in parks, playgrounds

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Borough Council discussed a great number of topics at Monday night's meeting, with one sure to affect smokers.

After much discussion among the council members and the mayor, it was proposed that smoking and tobacco use should be banned in all public playgrounds and parks — including Barclay Square — throughout town.

Police investigating two incidents of aggravated assault at Jefferson County Jail

Self-taught artist Teresa Ann Flick is at home in nature

Local artist and Punxsutawney Arts Association, Inc. member Teresa Ann Flick (pictured with her work) currently has her artwork on display at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

The association rotates the hospital exhibits, giving each member a chance to showcase his or her artwork.

Flick is a self-taught artist whose scenery paintings capture true beauty.

PACC needs to raise funds to keep Jackson Theater current in digital age

Take a close look at the projection booth of the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC) Jackson Theater.

The 35 mm projector and equipment needs to be replaced with a digital projector as the movie industry goes all digital within the next year.

Breaking News: Pantall sheriff's sale postponed

The sheriff's sale of the Pantall Hotel, which had been scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the sheriff's office, located in the Jefferson County Courthouse, has been postponed.

Jefferson County Sheriff Carl Gotwald Sr. said negotiations with the bank are ongoing.

The sale has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
