West End Tire Center cuts ribbon, to open for business

Ground officially broken for Cobblestone Hotel with golden-shovel ceremony

The official groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday evening for the Cobblestone Hotel, which will be located near Walmart on Alliance Drive.

The 36-room hotel, which will have a swimming pool and conference room — isn't expected to be completed until spring 2014.

BREAKING NEWS: Scanner reports indicate active shooter in Brockway

According to scanner reports from Thursday afternoon, local authorities have responded to an area referred to as Cemetery Hill in Brockway in response to multiple shots being fired.

According to WJAC-TV, "a state police spokesperson in Harrisburg confirmed one state trooper was injured in what was described as an 'ongoing situation' on Cemetery Hill Road."

Scanner reports also stated that area schools were on lockdown.

Please exercise caution in this area.

Further details will be released when they become available.

Lions Club’s White Cane Day to help provide eyeglasses to those in need

BREAKING NEWS: Punxsutawney Fire Department on scene of Route 36 structure fire

Crews from all three stations in the Punxsutawney Fire Department were called to a structure fire at 18301 Route 36 on Wednesday around 8:30 p.m.

Police respond to two-car Rt. 310 wreck

September 24, 2013

At 3:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police responded to a two-car accident on Harmony Road (Route 310), 410 feet south of Crawfordtown Road in Young Township.

Police said that a 2009 Ford F-150 driven by Richard M. Hazuda, 36, of Powell, Tenn., was stopped in the northbound late of Route 310 for a vehicle turning left into a driveway when a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta (pictured here) driven by Lacey L. McNeel, 20, of Reynoldsville was unable to stop and struck the rear of Hazuda's F-150.

Both units came to rest facing north in the northbound lane.

Work hard, play hard: Rossiter Playground Association benefits from golf tourney

Knox, grandson construct Little Free Library in Rochester Mills

ROCHESTER MILLS — Sometimes, the most amazing ideas can come from something we have read.

For one man, that idea came when he opened the pages of the American Profile magazine, a publication that is inserted into the newspaper.

Richard Knox was reading an article on how an 81-year-old Georgia man had built a Little Free Library for his community.

Inspired by the idea, Knox decided that he, too, wanted to build one at his home in Rochester Mills.

The idea behind Little Free Library was started by Todd Bol, of Hudson, Wisc.

Punxsy Weather Discovery Center receives EITC donation from PNC

The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center received a donation from PNC
Equipment Finance, LLC in the amount of $1,000 on Monday.

DCED representatives tour Punxsutawney, Brookville

Clyde “Champ” Holman, the current deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), along with other DCED representatives, made their way through Jefferson County last Thursday as a part of the DCED on the Road event.
