PUNXSUTAWNEY — There are certain signs that summer is beginning to wind down — cooler nights, back-to-school sales and, last but not least, the conclusion of the Punxsutawney Memorial Library's summer reading program.
"The theme for this summer's program was 'Dig Into Reading,’" said Coral Ellshoff, Punxsutawney Memorial Library director.
"It's been all about underground adventures, moving dirt, gardening, underground animals and mining," she said. "The musician we have here today, Jay Smar, specifically sings coal mining songs."
Just a reminder: The 2013 Music in the Park series continues tonight in Barclay Square, featuring Ridin’ Shotgun — a country/rock band. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Pizza and beverages will be available, and in the case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside to the Punxsutawney Area Community Center.
It was another successful day on Wednesday for Hot Dog Days at Fezell's County Market, sponsored by the Punxsutawney Memorial Library board of trustees. Pictured are Wednesday's celebrity workers (from left) Erin Cameron, Michelle Walls, Lisa London and Michele Neal of the Punxsutawney Rotary Club. Hot Dog Days continue today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with Thursday's celebrity workers being the Punxsy School District administrators.
