Local artist showcases impressive metal art

Local artist Britney Garman has found her passion in metal art.

A graduate of Triangle Tech, she has applied her educational background, along with her natural skills of metal welding, to create three brilliant pieces of artwork.

Pictured is Garman with her dog, Lady, standing between some of her pieces, which include a huge metal moose, a small metal dog and a sign for Stahlman's Country Store.

The pieces are currently on display outside of Stahlman's Restaurant.

Free Music in the Park concerts back in Barclay Square through August 22

PUNXSUTAWNEY — If you're missing the entertainment that came with the Groundhog Festival, then there's hope for you this week, as Music In the Park makes its 2013 debut with the band Crisis rockin' the park with classic rock starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Barclay Square.

Here's the schedule:

• Thursday, July 11 — Crisis — Classic rock

• Thursday, July 18 — Denny and the Gang (Sharp Tones)— 50s/60s

• Thursday, July 25 — Grampian Community Brass band with Randy Paul as the opening act.

• Sunday, July 28 — Miss B-Havin’ — Rock/Country (special time, 5-7 p.m.)

School board discusses student conduct policy

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area School District administration is going to present an updated extracurricular activities policy at the next Athletic Committee meeting.

Bob Pascuzzo, board member, at a recent Punxsutaweney Area School Board meeting, asked if there were going to be additional activities added to the personal conduct policy.

"Will students who are involved with extracurricular activities be asked to sign that paper that athletes sign regarding personal conduct?" Pascuzzo asked.

Borough concerned about truck traffic on Jenks, Graffius

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough Council said that once the sign prohibiting truck traffic is posted on Graffius Avenue and Jenks Avenue during the bridge reconstruction on Route 119 in Elk Run, Punxsutawney Borough Police will increase their patrols to enforce the types of traffic that are permitted on borough streets.

Eric Story, council member, asked if council could place a temporary stop sign at intersection of Jenks and Park Avenue.
