PUNXSUTAWNEY — Of course, the weather was perfect for the induction of Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel as the 2013 inductee into the Meteorologist Hall of Fame at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center on Saturday.
Peggy Johnston, chairperson of the exhibit and program committee for the Weather Discovery Center, read Cantore's introduction for being chosen for the Meteorologist Hall of Fame.
"We are pleased to have him join the ranks of other very accomplished experts in the field of meteorology whose pictures adorn our lobby at the Weather Center," she said.
PUNXSUTAWNEY— Groundhog Day is the one day of the year that brings in visitors from across the nation and other continents.
Traveling from Dallas, Texas, this year were four generations of a family that has made this trek for the fourth time.
What’s special about 2013, however, is the addition of the fourth generation, 9-month-old Michael Davis Harmon.
He joined his mother, Kristen Harmon, grandmother Sally Muhl and great-grandmother Donna W. Davis for his first-ever visit to not only Punxsutawney but to Gobbler's Knob.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — In what has become Punxsutawney's day in the sun, Groundhog Day, the only thing that could take away from it would be the passing of one of its favorite sons on Friday, former Mayor John Hallman.
Jim Cassidy, chairman of the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center, eulogized Hallman prior to the induction of Weather Channel Meteorologist Jim Cantore, its 2013 inductee into the Meteorologist
Hall of Fame on Saturday.
"Friday morning, we received some bad news, as we lost one of our own, John Hallman," he said.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The hour was 7:28 a.m., and right on time, Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his humble abode to the thrill of what the members of his Inner Circle predicted to be a record crowd that had been patiently awaiting his prognostication for hours in the single-digit, below-zero-wind-chill temperatures they'd been battling all night.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It is one of the greatest honors in the small town of Punxsutawney, and deservedly so, the bequeathing of that honor comes on the eve of the town's biggest day.
It was Groundhog Eve, as many know it, Friday night, and the crowning of the Woman and Man of the Year took center stage as the end of the Groundhog Banquet approached.
Katie Laska, 2011 Woman of the Year, stepped to the microphone and delivered the ceremonial, passing-of-the-torch speech to a woman who she said she knows quite well.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Groundhog Day means a lot of things to the people of Punxsutawney and the surrounding communities, but its reach extends farther even than that — a fact echoed by Danny Rubin, one of the special guests at this year's Groundhog Banquet held the night before the big day.
"Twenty-one years ago, I sat down in a room, and I got an idea, and I wrote a movie," Rubin said. "And you always hope that somebody will see it and that maybe you'll make a difference in the world. Maybe you'll entertain some people.
Little Miss and Mister Groundhog were crowned Friday at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center.
