PUNXSUTAWNEY â Punxsutawney Borough Council voted to change the tax collector compensation at a special meeting held Thursday.
Prior to the vote by council, Punxsutawney Borough Tax Collector Susan Mitchell said in a statement:
"It's a bit disheartening to realize that my hard work and dedication to my job is not appreciated. I have never received an unfavorable report from any taxing district or auditor. My records have balanced to the penny the entire time I have been in office."
BIG RUN â The members of the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company want to say âthank youâ this weekend for all the help they've received in fund-
raising this past year with a free breakfast to be served at the fire hall on Saturday.
Rick Smith, Big Run Fire Company vice president, said that the free breakfasts that have been held in the past have been for Santa Claus and the kids.
"This one we're holding on Saturday, we decided to do something for the the real supporters of the fire company," Smith said, adding that the fire company had a really good year fundraising in 2012.
Mapleview Elementary School students were encouraged to wear Valentineâs Day-themed attire to school Thursday in order to earn money for their classroom from PTO.
