After 41-plus years of military service, Foster enjoying his retirement at home

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Giving 41 years of one's life to anything these days stands out as a great achievement, and one local man — Punxsutawney's own Master Sgt. Bill Foster — recently retired after dedicating just more than 41 years of service to the military and the local community through his involvement in the Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Familiar Faces Friday! Colleen Schott

The point of the project will be to highlight a member of the community who may be recognizable to many and tell his or her story. Today’s familiar face is Colleen Schott.)

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Colleen Schott is a recognizable face. You may recognize her as a kindhearted volunteer who has rung the bell for the Salvation Army.

Though she may not work right in town, she certainly makes an impact on the lives of those who need guidance.

Punxsy, meet your next mayor: Richard Alexander

PUNXSUTAWNEY — There's soon to be a new mayor in town, as Republican Richard Alexander was elected mayor in Tuesday's general election.

Punxsy Borough Police announce arrests made in 2012-13 burglary spree

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Following what was a more-than-year-long investigation, the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department reported the arrests of numerous individuals who were allegedly involved in a series of burglaries that occurred in Punxsutawney Borough between May 2012 and April 2013.

The five who were arrested and charged were:

• Jason Robert Brownlee, 32, Punxsutawney;

• Ryan J. Brownlee, 26, Punxsutawney;

• Samantha Lynn Cochran, 18, Punxsutawney;

• Grayce E. Sutter, 20, Stump Creek;

• Mindy Murvine, 19, Nanty Glo.

Alexander wins mayor race, Burkett to remain DA

BROOKVILLE — When the final precinct results were counted Tuesday night, the results showed that Punxsy’s most interesting race — the one that would decide who would be Punxsy’s next mayor — went to Richard Alexander.

A total of 7,948 votes were cast across the county in the unofficial results released by the county.

Alexander earned 55.08 percent of the votes in the mayoral race, with a total of 531. Dennis C. Rebuck ran on the Democratic ticket, earning 156 votes for 16.18 percent of the total.

Punxsy School Board members discuss contract extension for business administrator
