PSP reports search for missing man concluded Thursday

BELL TOWNSHIP — Thursday, Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police released a report saying that as of 7 p.m. Wednesday night, Troop C was attempting to locate the whereabouts of Chadwick A. Heckman, 41, of Punxsutawney, who left his residence in his vehicle on Tuesday evening at approximately 7 p.m. and didn’t return.

The vehicle, at the time of the initial report, had been located.

At 5:37 p.m. on Thursday, police issued an update saying that Heckman had been located and that no further details would be released about the
case.

Familiar Faces Friday! Rick Bishop

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Rick Bishop is a recognizable face.

You may recognize him as the owner of Cornerstone Chiropractic Center, located on West Mahoning Street, or perhaps you have seen him around the community.

Bishop was born in Clearfield, where he resided until the age of 10.
His family then moved to Sharon, Pa.

Community Action, Inc. announces new service for homeless veterans

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Community Action, Inc., which services Jefferson and Clarion counties, launched a new federal program to serve the local area on Oct. 1: Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF).

"It's a supportive services program for homeless veterans or those at high risk of being homeless," said Rod Rhodes, planning director for Community Action.

Roseville Independent Chapel to bring gospel quartet to Punxsutawney

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Roseville Independent Chapel in Brookville will be bringing an evening of music and entertainment to the Punxsutawney Area High School on Dec. 7 in the form of Dove Award-winning gospel quartet Ernie Haase + Signature Sound.

The concert will begin in the high school auditorium at 6 p.m. The doors will open at 5 p.m.

Pastor Jim Fillhart said the concert is a fundraiser for the chapel, with the proceeds going directly into its new building project fund.

Practicing safe trick-or-treating will make Kids’ Halloween spook-tastic!

Halloween festivities will be held in Punxsutawney Borough on Thursday, beginning with the traditional firefighters’ parade at 6 p.m. and trick-or-treating to follow until 9 p.m.

Once again this year, Kengersky’s Nationwide Insurance has purchased and donated glow stick necklaces for the little ghosts and goblins to wear throughout the evening.

Mengle Memorial Library premieres documentary about local racer ‘Squirt’

Stanley "Squirt" Johns (right), Brockway, a former stock car racer and the subject of the documentary "SQUIRT," which recently premiered at the Mengle Memorial Library, sits down with Greg Peterson, one of the producers of the film, to shoot more footage during a question and answer session with the audience at the premiere.

Red Cross representative Konior provides emergency weather preparedness pointers

The Punxsutawney Memorial Library and the Weather Discovery Center teamed up to present a weather preparedness program Monday evening at the library.

American Red Cross PA Heartland Chapter’s Marianne Konior spoke about how to prepare for a weather disaster and how to make an emergency kit.

Reynoldsville celebrates bridge centennial, names Scolese its Citizen of the Year

REYNOLDSVILLE — John Scolese (right) received the Reynoldsville Area Business Association’s Citizen of the Year Award from Mayor Louie “Peach” Caltagarone (left) and Sarah Caltagarone, president of the business association.

Scolese received the award Sunday, when a ribbon was cut to commemorate the 100th birthday of the Tickle Belly Bridge in Reynoldsville.

REA momentary service interruptions to occur Tuesday

INDIANA — REA Energy Cooperative, Inc. members served by the Smithport substation will be affected by momentary outages on Tuesday.

REA Energy will be performing substation maintenance.

The momentary service interruptions will occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The following areas will be affected:
• Banks and Canoe townships in Indiana County;
• Bell and Gaskill townships in Jefferson County;
• Areas in an around Smithport, Johnsonburg, Canoe Ridge, Hillman, Winslow, Hudson and Cloe.
