Police: Flags, veteran memorial rods stolen from cemetery

BELL TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the theft of flags and veteran memorial rods stolen from the Banner Ridge Cemetery in Mahaffey, Clearfield County.

Police said unknown actor(s) removed five U.S. flags — each of which was held with an 18-inch solid brass rod with a plate designating the wars in which the deceased had served, including the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam.

The incident occurred at the cemetery sometime between 7 a.m. Dec. 15 and 7 a.m. Dec. 25.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Pennsylvania American Water (PAW) is riding the wave of the future with its CNG vehicles.

Local officials joined with Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Sam Smith and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection officials Friday at PAW's Punxsutawney office to mark the company’s launch of a compressed natural gas (CNG) pilot program for its vehicle fleet.

Friday, the company displayed four new CNG-powered Ford F-250 trucks at its kickoff event — a fleet that will be piloted in Punxsutawney and Coatesville.
