10 a.m. – 6 p.m. - Groundhog Story Walk, Punxsutawney Historical Society, 401 W. Mahoning St. Come enjoy a walk inside while listening to a story and enjoying activities. Free!
It was a momentous occasion at PAHS, as the 2013 Groundhog King and Queen
were crowned Thursday at the school assembly.
Accepting the royal title of Groundhog King was Taylor Phillips (front, left), and accepting the title of Groundhog Queen was Alexah Fedigan (front, right).

PUNXSUTAWNEY — If you're familiar with the way traffic patterns have been set up for Groundhog Day in the past, then you'll be good to go when it comes to Phil's 127th-annual trek to Gobbler's Knob.
"Nothing has changed. Once again this year, parking will be prohibited on Woodland Avenue, with the detour beginning at 3 a.m., and all vehicles that are normally parked in the street by residents will be towed if they haven't been moved by that time," said Tom Fedigan, Punxsutawney Borough Police chief.

One thing that is known to be associated with Groundhog Day is royalty. And the crownings began Wednesday, as The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle crowned Sam Powers (front, left) Groundhog King and Anna Mae Hiles (front, right) the Groundhog Queen for 2013 at Mulberry Square Wednesday, as voted by their fellow residents. PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center and the local chapter of the Elks would like to invite the residents of Punxsutawney and all visiting for the holiday weekend to come celebrate the countdown to Groundhog Day with the Shadow Summit.
An illuminated plexiglass groundhog cut out will be extended high into the sky to mark the beginning of the celebration of Groundhog Day on Groundhog Eve.
The event will take place between the Weather Discovery Center and the Punxsutawney Elks building.
WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — The Jeff Tech Operating Committee (JOC) continued its discussion on the purchasing of iPads for Jeff Tech students.
Sherry Hasselman, business manager, asked the JOC if it would like to proceed with sending a formal letter to the DuBois Educational Foundation for assistance in purchasing iPads for Jeff Tech students.
Dr. Fred Park, committee member, said he would like to take a look at all of the options being considered for the iPad initiative.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — PAHS seniors have selected four boys and four girls to make up the 2013 Groundhog Court.
The court will be honored during an assembly to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. At that time, the 2013 Groundhog King and Queen will be crowned.
This year’s court includes Alysha Bridge, Alexah Fedigan, Jeane Pifer, Carley Smith, Drew Cooper, Pasquale Defelice, Taylor Phillips and Austin Sabatucci.
• Alysha Danielle Bridge is the daughter of Michael and Rae Ann Bridge of Timblin.
She is enrolled in the academic curriculum at PAHS.
WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — Two Jeff Tech students presented a mock-up for the proposed sign to be placed on the front of the school building at Monday's Joint Operating Committee (JOC) meeting.
Jeremy Fotta and Dylen Campbell, Jeff Tech metal fabrication students, presented the results of the research for the proposed sign as to what would be the least expensive and most feasible.
Campbell said it would cost $3,200 for aluminum, which would weigh approximately 900 pounds.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — It's a spicy, hot pizza — and we do mean hot — when World Pizza Champion (WPC) Patt Miller returns to Punxsutawney to flip his flaming pizzas as part of this weekend's Groundhog Day festivities.
Rob McCoy, director of the Punxsutawney Area Community Center (PACC), said Miller will headline several performances in the Jackson Theater and in Barclay Square throughout the holiday weekend.
January 28th
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney Area Education Association (PAEA) donated money to various non-profit organizations that offer programs for school children in the Punxsutawney Area School District.
"Part of the dues we pay each year go toward a community project," said Jeff Kuntz, social studies and math teacher at the Punxsutawney Area Middle School at a presentation held Monday at the Punxsutawney
Memorial Library.
"PAEA donates money to community organizations three or four times each year," he said.
