Editorâs Note: The family of Victoria and Wayne Shugar issued the following statement Friday night:
We, the family, have been through a terrible ordeal these past two years, from the moments on April 12, when we all started to get calls that something was wrong and standing across the road; and looking up at the state police investigating what had happened in the house. Soon after, we got to re-enter the house, we had to look at what had happened in our parentsâ house, trying to figure out what and why this had happened to them.
BROOKVILLE â Despite two days of testimony, a jury responsible for determining the fate of convicted murderer Steven P. Rebert could not decide: The death penalty or life in prison without parole.
Because a juryâs decision for the death penalty must be unanimous, Judge John Foradora sentenced Rebert to four consecutive life sentences instead.
After hearing the closing arguments for the penalty phase, the jury then had to decide how to punish Rebert, found guilty Tuesday in the double-homicide of Wayne and Victoria Shugars April 10, 2010.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â When Dr. Frank Bizousky finally settled on a decision and a game plan to lose weight, he didnât do it just to shed a few pounds.
He was doing it as a game plan for the rest of his life.
Since March 2011, after seriously dedicating himself to the task, Bizousky, a 1978 PAHS graduate and long-time physician at Punxsutawney Area Hospital, has lost 110 pounds, having reached his weight goal in seven months.

Defense: Jurors must also consider prison, not only death
BROOKVILLE â While District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett told the jury that it was âjustâ in finding Steven P. Rebert guilty in the 2010 shooting deaths of Wayne and Victoria Shugar, defense attorney Michael Marshall asked the jury to also find a âjustâ verdict during the penalty phase Thursday.
âAgain, render a just verdict, and choose not to put Steven to death,â he said.
BROOKVILLE â As the penalty phase for Steven P. Rebert began Thursday â two days after he was found guilty of killing Wayne and Victoria Shugar, both 61, in their Coal Tipple Road, Brockway residence in April 2010 â District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett reminded the jury that itâs not all about whether it sends Rebert to prison for the rest of his life, or it sentences him to death.
The phase during which the jury explored Rebertâs innocence or guilt is over: The jury found him guilty of killing the Shugars, Burkett said, âand now, itâs not just about Steven Rebert anymore.
BROOKVILLE â It might just have been the best kept secret in Brookville.

DUBOIS â Students at Penn Stateâs DuBois branch campus joined in the chorus of voices Wednesday, remembering the life and legacy of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.
Wednesday afternoon, students took part in a candlelight vigil near the campus Lion Shrine, honoring the memory of JoePa.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center is preparing to welcome its ninth inductee into the National Meteorologist Hall of Fame, Fred Gadomski, the host and co-producer of âWeather World,â a 15-minute nightly weather magazine program produced by the Penn State Weather Communications Group.
He will be inducted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 â Groundhog Day â at the Weather Discovery Center, Punxsy.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Next Wednesday, the Punxsy Elks Club will host its 14th annual comedy night. The show will feature Michaelangelo as emcee and headliner Dan Long.
Long, an Ohio Native, has performed his high-energy act all over the country. A master of impressions, Long performs a spot-on impersonation of Jack Nicholson, Johnny Carson and others.
A former writer for âThe Tonight Show,â this veteran of the stand-up comedy scene has performed from coast to coast.

DA: The blood cries out for guilty verdict; jury hears it
BROOKVILLE â In his closing statement of Steven P. Rebertâs double murder trial Tuesday, District Attorney Jeffery Burkett invoked the voice of one of the victims, Wayne Shugar, and asked that the jury hear that voice, as well.
âThe blood of Wayne Shugar cries out in this courtroom,â Burkett said, citing evidence that showed four spots of Shugarâs blood on the bottom of Rebertâs work boots.
âYour DNA is the content of your person: Itâs responsible for your eye color, your personality, your height,â he said.
