A dispatch from Laporte, Indiana of recent date says, "Edith E. Rylatt, of Armstrong county, PA, answered the matrimonial want notice of Alexander Rhines, of Fulton county and has become his lawful wife.

Area musicians band together in effort to help local youngster

PUNXSUTAWNEY — So many turn to music to help lift their spirits when they’re having a rough day. So, when a student from the Punxsutawney Area Middle School, Colin Wineberg, 
fell ill, several local musicians decided to put their talents to use raising money to help Wineberg’s cause.

Event organizer Mike Krach, a music teacher in the Punxsutawney Area School District, said Colin is a 7th-grade student in the district who is in need of a kidney transplant. When Wineberg fell ill this past summer rather suddenly, Krach said a chronic kidney disease was discovered.

Jury finds Thornhill guilty on all but one count

BROOKVILLE — The trial of Christopher Thornhill ended on Thursday with him being found guilty of all but one of the counts with which he was charged in a shooting that took place in Punxsutawney on Sept. 22, 2011.

The victims in the incident were Punxsutawney residents Shane Glatt and Richard White Jr., both of whom survived with serious injuries.

Krise Bus Service named Chamber’s Business of the Year

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Thursday afternoon, the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce held its annual members’ luncheon, and the highlight of the event was the naming of the 2012 Business of the Year Award, Krise Bus Service of
Punxsutawney.

The winner write-up, read by Tracy Smith — representing Spirit Publishing Company, which was last year’s winner — stated this year’s winner was a company “formed in 1990 by a person who became interested in the industry while he was still a senior in high school. Starting out with 45 employees, this company grew steadily.

Pizza & Prevention puts up yet another big number in 2012

Wednesday afternoon, Fox’s Pizza Den donated a check for $46,595.91 — funds raised during the annual Pizza & Prevention fundraiser — to the Punxsutawney Fire Department.

Testimonies continue at Thornhill trial

BROOKVILLE — Testimonies continued Wednesday in the trial of Christopher Thornhill, as law enforcement officers and medical personnel spoke their parts and ballistic evidence was brought forward for review.

The fruits of their labor: Sr. project presentations tonight

A number of PAHS students have been hard at work on their senior projects, and tonight, the public can learn about the senior project process by attending Senior Graduation Project Presentation Night beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the PAHS cafeteria. Approximately 54 seniors are set to present. Senior Carley Smith raised $1,000 for the American Cancer Society by holding an acoustic music night Oct. 5 at Rumors Tavern. She is pictured (right) presenting her donation to Jessica Carbaugh, the local representative for the American Cancer Society.

State Police looking into alleged assault of 9-year-old girl

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP — DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police reported Tuesday that an investigation has been launched into the alleged sexual assault of a 9-year-old female.

The alleged incident(s) took place between July 1 and Oct. 9 at a residence in Winslow Township.

The investigation is ongoing.

Testimony underway in Christopher Thornhill trial

November 7, 2012

BROOKVILLE — Christopher Thornhill, the alleged shooter of two Punxsutawney men back in September 2011, faced his supposed victims and other individuals as they testified against him on day two of his trial on Tuesday in Brookville.

Thornhill has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and other related offenses.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is being represented in the case by District Attorney Jeff Burkett. Defense Attorney Fred Hummel is representing Thornhill.
