PUNXSUTAWNEY — A local car dealer is holding a fundraiser Saturday in order to raise money for the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
Geoffrey Brackman, general manager of Kuntz Chevrolet Buick in Punxsutawney, said he's had an idea for a while to hold a special benefit for the fire department.
"Bill Williams, a Punxsutawney volunteer firefighter who works with me here at Kuntz's, would always tell me about the various needs that the fire department has," Brackman said, adding that one day, while traveling to work, he came up with an idea to put on an annual benefit for the fire department.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — While runners can often be seen trekking the streets of Punxsutawney, this weekend will bring a special, additional group of runners to the town, as the 14th-annual Groundhog Fall 50K is slated to begin early Saturday morning.
For the second consecutive year, the race is being hosted by the Big Run VFW Post 9044, and the event is directed by post quartermaster Bob Lott.
One advantage of hosting the race in Punxsutawney, Lott said, is that it does bring in an out-of-town crowd and generates some revenue in the town.
The Punxsutawney Area High School cheerleaders paused during Wednesday’s practice to display their sign about Kelsey Snyder’s (front, left) senior project — a chicken barbeque to benefit Spirit Buses for the cheerleaders and students to travel to road football games this season.
The event will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mahoning Valley Milling.
