INDIANA — Bernadette Peters performing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania this Friday is a special occasion in itself, but for this trip, Peters has some good news of her own.
Tuesday, it was announced that Peters — a star of stage, television, concert and recordings — has been chosen to receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award during the upcoming Tony Awards celebration in June.
But prior to that event, Peters will conclude the inaugural season of the Lively Arts’ “Ovations!” series at 8 p.m. Friday at Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — During Sunday’s Loyalty Day program at the War Memorial, VFW Post Adjutant Bob Lott recognized Keaton Mohney, a senior at Punxsutawney Area High School.
Mohney participated in Voice of Democracy, an audio-essay competition last year, and wrote an essay on the topic, “Is there pride in serving in our military?”
Mohney won at the VFW Post 9044 level and the District 19 level.
Her success at the district level led her to compete at the state level in Harrisburg, where she placed sixth.
OLIVEBURG — A Rossiter man riding a motorcycle around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday along Route 36 in Oliveburg, was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries after he crashed his bike.
According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Kyle T. Bryan, 22, Rossiter, was traveling north on Route 36 on his Kawasaki 250R and was completing a pass when a bungee cord that was holding a coat and cooler bag came loose, and the coat wrapped around the bike’s tire .
