HARRISBURG — After almost two years of research and hearings regarding the possible split of the 814 area code — or the implementation of a new area code, 582 — the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) Thursday voted to dismiss the relief plan and implementation schedule of the geographic split.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — It looks as if Cherry Street will receive some much-needed attention as Punxsutawney Borough Council approved street renovations at Tuesday’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Hearing and special council meeting.
Borough Manager Ben White said the borough has chosen the renovation of Cherry Street — from Carlton Avenue to North Findley Street — as its 2012 CDBG project.
White said the work proposed involves street renovations, replacing the deteriorating railing with a guardrail and installing a storm drain.
Punxsutawney Area High School seniors who did not present their senior projects during the fall semester did so Thursday night, as one of the final requirements for graduation. Here, Ryan Marshall rests on a new bench he created for a park at the Coolspring Community Center.
