PennDOT: Intersection should reopen at noon today

October 28, 2012

A worker operates a machine Saturday afternoon at the intersection of State Route (SR) 119 at Hampton Avenue/Ridge Avenue/Clark Street.

The intersection closed at 6 p.m. Friday for the replacement of the railroad crossing.

PennDOT has said the intersection is expected to reopen at noon today.

Detours are posted throughout the borough and surrounding areas.

No fright on this great night!

Both children and adults enjoyed the 4th annual East End Trick-or-Treat event Saturday night. Noella Hartzfeld (left), 9, dressed up as a “Dizzy Lizzy” monster, while Nakoma Hartzfeld, 12, donned an “80s Girl” costume.

Their mother, Linda Hartzfeld, said the girls opted to hand out candy at their Mahoning Street residence this year instead of going trick-or-treating, which she thought was a fine idea.

Jefferson County Jail currently not interested in picking up state inmates and related programs

BROOKVILLE — Due to continued population issues, the Jefferson County Jail is presently uninterested in programs involving the housing of state inmates, Warden Tom Elbel said at its most recent meeting last Monday.

The matter was raised when District Attorney Jeff Burkett brought up an email that had been sent to members of the board
by County Commission Chairman Paul Corbin, who also sits on the Jail Inspection/Intermediate Punishment Board but was not present for that particular meeting.

BROOKVILLE — Officials in Brookville Borough are coordinating a preemptive response to forecasted severe weather.

The Brookville Borough Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Hoak, The Jefferson County Department of Emergency Services, the Brookville Police Department, The Red Cross and the Brookville Volunteer Fire Company urge all citizens to take action now against impending inclement weather.

While forecasts are still uncertain, the National Weather Service is predicting severe weather of some extent for our region.

Perry Township Trick-or-Treat clarification

PERRY TOWNSHIP — All Perry Township residents are welcome at the fire hall for trick-or-treating from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31.

This event will be held ONLY at the fire hall, not door to door.
