PUNXSUTAWNEY — While Punxsutawney Area High School had its Homecoming royalty crowned last weekend, the other campus in town — IUP-Punxsy — has just recently announced its representative for its own Homecoming, coming up this weekend, in Allia Scott of Philadelphia.
Scott will represent the first-year students' campus in what IUP calls its "Crimson Court" as a part of Homecoming 2012 activities.
DUBOIS — The Com- monwealth Connections Academy (CCA) hosted a back-to-school picnic for students in Jefferson County at the Edgewood Family Fun Center last Tuesday.
The event was one of eight such back-to-school parties being held across the state by the school, with 32 planned for the two-week span.
The purpose of the event was to kick off the start of a new school year, as well as to allow students and parents the opportunity to meet their peers and teachers in person.
The combined youth groups of the Christian, Missionary and Alliance Church; First Church of God; Salvation Army; and First United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney sponsored a youth rally Sunday at the Punxsutawney Area High School gymnasium. Mike Hammer, youth pastor at First Church of God, said the purpose of the rally was to have a safe event where students could come, interact and have fun. He said he wants students to realize that just because something is church-related doesn’t mean it’s boring.
