Rega seeks help from Italian consulate

BROOKVILLE — The post-conviction appeal hearing for Robert G. Rega of Punxsutawney resumed Tuesday at the Jefferson County Courthouse, when Rega’s attorneys requested a continuance on his contention that he would have been entitled to some type of legal assistance from the Italian consulate in Philadelphia because he’s an Italian national.

PAHS to crown Homecoming Queen, Princess Friday

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Sept. 8, the PAHS senior class chose six senior girls to represent the 2011 Homecoming Queen’s Court.

This year’s court includes Cenneca Dilts, Brooke Doney, Adrienne Hess, Alexandria Magill, Keaton Mohney, and Alissa Vite.

The senior girl with the highest number of votes will reign as queen, and the senior girl with the second highest number of votes will reign as princess, after the official crowning during halftime of Friday’s homecoming football game against Karns City.

Colleen Means named club’s Career Woman of the Year

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Career Women’s Club named Colleen Means as its Career Woman of the Year during a dinner Tuesday evening.

Means, who teaches fifth-grade reading and language arts at Punxsutawney Area Middle School, has been a teacher for the past 28 years.

She is also the co-chairperson of the club’s Girl of the Month Committee.

Also, for the past 20 years, Means has been in charge of the group’s annual Teddy Bear Picnic, which is held as part of the Groundhog Festival.

Means said she was very surprised to receive the award, and she is very thankful.
