DAR celebrating Constitution Week

September 18, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsutawney chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) would like to encourage everyone to stand up and cheer during the celebration of Constitution Week, but to also take time to learn more about this very important document.

Friday, Mayor James Wehrle proclaimed Constitution Week in Punxsy, a commemoration — that is also one of this country’s least known official observances — of one of America’s most important documents.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Members of the Punxsutawney High School Class of 1951 gathered this past weekend at Camp Little Leo to celebrate their 60th reunion.

More than 80 members of the class were present over the two-day celebration.

"The fellowship is really the important thing," reunion co-chairman Bob Bish said Sunday after the luncheon. "You can really see the bond in this class."

The 60th class reunion was dedicated to Margaret C. Boles, an English teacher at PHS who passed away during the class' junior year.

NEVER FORGOTTEN

The Big Run VFW Post No. 9044 held a POW/MIA remembrance ceremony Saturday, starting off with the Color Guard posting the POW/MIA flag. Gospel music was played, and the audience listened to excerpts from John McCain's account of being a POW. Everyone in attendance joined in prayer to pay tribute to the American soldiers who had to suffer as POWs, as well as and the many American soldiers whose whereabouts are still unknown.

When it comes to children riding in cars, safety always comes first.
