August 18th
On an evening when organizers thought of moving Music in the Park indoors due to possible showers, not a drop appeared, and Rock Top brought its old-time country classics to the Barclay Square audience Thursday night. The last installment of Music in the Park for the season will be held next Thursday, with The LaVelles performing swing and country/rock. Hang on to your lawn chairs for one more night in the park.
BROOKVILLE â Residents from Brookville and the surrounding communities gathered Thursday night to show their support for U.S. servicemen and women.
The Brookville Volunteer Fire Company hosted an Armed Forces Community Covenant Service in the Brookville Jr.-Sr. High School Auditorium.
Before the ceremony, members from the community stood together for a picture in the shape of a heart.
August 17th
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Big Run firefighter who was arrested and charged with setting an Aug. 9 fire along Pennsylvania Avenue in Big Run has been charged in most of the other arson and undetermined fires that occurred in the Big Run area within the past year, including the Little Canada and Big Run Carpet fires.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Growing up with parents who loved to garden has inspired Cherie Kopas to create her own gardens at her home.
Winning the Punxsy Garden Clubâs Garden of the Month award is something Kopas is very proud of, since her mother and father have always loved the hobby as well.
âMy parents had a plant shop in Indiana,â she said. âSo I was always there helping them water and take care of the plants.â
When Kopas got old enough to move into her own place, she was shocked to see that her soon-to-be home was completely bare on the outside.

August 16th
BIG RUN â While the community of Big Run breathed a sigh of relief, the fire department was left at a loss.
Aug. 10, Punxsy-based Pennsylvania State Police arrested Anthony Overbeck, 18, a former member of the Big Run Volunteer Area Fire Department with arson.
Jefferson County District Attorney Jeffrey Burkett said charges against Overbeck regarding a rash of other arsons in the area are likely forthcoming.
While the arrest may have put residents of the Big Run community at ease, it likely caused much sadness for the members of the fire department.

August 15th
BIG RUN â Big Run Borough Council, at Monday's meeting, congratulated members of the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company on a job well done, despite the adverse circumstances of dealing with the many arson fires that occurred throughout the area over the past year.
Big Run Borough Council President Nick Lantz congratulated the members of the fire company for continuing to do a great job even though Anthony Overbeck â who police charged last week with arson and other offenses â had belonged to the Big Run Fire Company at the time of his alleged crimes.
Emily Krivak (second from left), 16, was crowned the 2011 Reynoldsville Homecoming Queen during the opening ceremonies Monday night downtown. Also on hand for the crowning were (from left) 2010 Queen Mindy Hutchins, 16; Krivak; Brooke Godwin, 16, first runner-up; Miranda Meholick, 14, second runner-up; and Dakota Knarr, 16, third runner-up. The queen was chosen based on her essay, "What Reynoldsville Means to Me." All the girls attend DuBois Area High School.

PUNXSUTAWNEY â It's not quite the parking lot at Mel's Diner in the George Lucas film âAmerican Graffiti,â but itâs close enough.
Friday, the Vintage Steel Car Club of Punxsy hosted its third drive-in of the summer at Advance Auto Parts, which drew 56 different classic, vintage and otherwise sweet vehicles from around the region.
The gathering â and the open membership club â is a work in progress,said club founder Doug Hollenbaugh.
âWe just like to keep it open to everyone and have a good time,â he said.
