Driver injured, spill closes Route 119 for hours

COVODE — A tractor-trailer transporting corrosive acid crashed and rolled over along Route 119 in Covode, North Mahoning Township, spilling the acid and diesel fuel across the road around 11:23 p.m. Thursday.

The road remained closed through Friday morning.

According to Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police, Michael D. Devos, 50, Pittsburgh, was operating a 1998 Peterbilt tractor-trailer north along Route 119 when he lost control while trying to negotiate a left curve in the road.

Amid sun, heat and waves, Cherian continues canoe trip for Fox Foundation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Of all the items that Michael Cherian packed for his canoe journey via the Mississippi River to New Orleans, one has become invaluable almost every day.

“I love my mosquito net,” Cherian said Thursday, taking a break from his 2,000-mile canoe trip. “I take care of it. I’m really glad I brought it. As soon as the sun sets, I grill until it’s dark then have to set up camp. By then, they’re out biting you.”
