PUNXSUTAWNEY — Thursday, state police formally announced charges against a teenage member of the Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company stemming from an Aug. 9 fire in Big Run, and said he has also been implicated in several other fires dating back to 2010.
Officials from PSP-Punxsutawney and the district attorney noted, however, that charges filed against Anthony M. Overbeck, 18, Big Run, are not an indictment of other firefighters.
The Del Sinchak Band — (from left) Ron "Austie" Austalosh, Joe Colapietro, Sinchak, Alan Koss and Bob Smrecansky — performed polka and other favorites Thursday during the sixth installment of the Music in the Park Series in Barclay Square. Sinchak, now in his 61st year as a band leader, formed the group with drummer Smrecansky when he was in seventh grade, and Sinchak was in eighth grade. There are only two more Music in the Park shows left for the summer — Rocky Top (classic country) next week and The LaVelles (swing/country rock) the week after — so don’t put your lawn chairs away just yet.

And then, at a July meeting, Commissioner Jim McIntyre said legislation to eliminate the position of jury commissioner will be back on the table this fall.
But he is “anticipating that it will be the decision of the county commissioners, and not a referendum.”
